I highly doubt they do it but it has been discussed with Mesa Brothers people. Pay VV with 2018 IFA(4.5 million) and in 2019 they overpay for Mesa Jr(give him 3/4 million even tho not worth it)
Atlanta did it for years until they got greedy and were doing deals with trainers in 2015 for guys who weren't eligible till 2019
Cubs did it with Mexican Players until this year when MLB got tired of it and said No Mexican Players can be signed until they come to an agreement
Dodgers just signed a Korean player for 300K even tho u probably could have gotten alot more from other teams or the KBO. Why? #1 Dodgers got relation with KBO #2 He liked the team
Its hard to prove something unless it so obvious like Mesa Jr giving VV his check and saying this is yours.

Lopez was 3rd best Prospect in Phelps trade and wasn't even in the deal until last minute
Deal was Hernandez,Provse,Schiraldi then Mike Hill said instead of Provse they will take Brandon Miller and Lopez

Again I doubt it will happen with VV just saying it has been discussed. More likely we sign Victor Mesa Jr in 2017 and maybe make another run at Sandy Gaston then hold onto cash just in case someone defects or a team wants some cashLast edited by tjfla; 08-22-2018, 10:23 AM.

That's a fraud.
Inducing a fraud.
Fraud.
Fraud.
Not a Fraud, good for the Dodger's brand
And yes it's probably hard to prove
This doesn't seem like something the Marlins, who have to be bottom 3 in north american sports in image, should be doing even if Victor Victor is a good prospect.
There are many ways to utilize that IFA cash - including trading it if they can't get guys they like at a value they like. I mean, Gausman is a really good pitcher (despite some flaws) with a few years of control and the Braves got him for half of what the Marlins have stockpiled. They are going to get good value out of it no matter what they do and they don't need to resort to any of this shenanigans.

I would do what u said in last paragraph. Spend 1.5 Million on Mesa Jr(3 Mil Left in 2018) then wait for a team who needs the cash. Trade it for prospects or even draft picks in 2019. They got Chris Torres for 1 million

What moves? Not being a jerk, genuinely curious.
The phelps trade is an example of why they fucked up so badly not trading relievers at the deadline. I hate keeping relievers with value on a team that is bad and plans to be bad for at least another year.

I know we are getting more into the latin american IFA market, but i wonder if the new ownership/front office has any ties to the asian markets in coming years. I know the yankees are always involved in those guys but I think Denbo specialized in latin american more than asia. Would be nice to see though. Somehow we gotta find an ace if we have a very solid base of mid rotation guys.
