Maybe dial that back a bit since they still have control over literally everyone. I'm pretty sure Barraclough not being traded isn't going to make or break the future team, although it is disappointing.

Hopefully he has a big second half and that's a gut that can be moved in November. At least he deflects saves from Steck and Conley.

He's basically a 1.5-2 WAR guy over 150/games. I mean, 3/$15 and getting a free agency year is fine on a practical level it's so cheap. The Marlins will profit of that if he is status quo.

I suspect Dietrich will want a 4th year and $22-25 though. He's got 1 shot at free agency for a player like him so he might gamble on having 2 good years if it isn't worth his while.

    Who knows.

Yup. I don’t have a problem not giving guys we have control over away. I would have liked to have moved DD and a reliever, but it is what it is. They can still try to trade some guys in August and in the offseason. It’s not the end of the world. The market was flooded with controllable relievers and that really hurt our position.

          • Orioles also getting 2.5 million for gausman for victor victor. Just a complete and utter train wreck of a trade eadline for the marlins. No other way around it. An utter failure given what they needed to do as a rebuilding team with several guys at the height of their value

I think teams place a lot more value on recent numbers than overall numbers. DD has been playing well, and Barraclough hasn't. I think it's reasonable to think Barraclough can get to at least this level again next year. I wouldn't just move him for the sake of moving him. I do agree that they should have dealt him last month, though. That was probably his peak.

              • Today’s moves are the moves of a team half adding a rebuild and you never half ass a rebuild.

                • Check out Gausman vs Straily stats. Why did BALT get ATlanta's 2.5M pool money?

                  • Clearly Barraclough killed his value in the last 2 weeks or so. Zero reason for that guy to still be on the Marlins.

And no one wanted Straily enough obviously. He stinks. I don’t blame the market.

I’m actually happy Deitrich is still a Marlin. He’s a Marlins veteran at this point.

Orioles had a much better deadline than we did.

                    Gausman xFIP: 4.05

                    Straily: 4.87

                    • Orioles with great trades today

Got 4 23 and older guys who could be up in the majors by 2019,2 young leftside IF lotto tickets and probably just got Victor Victor Mesa too

                      Phillips RP
                      Ortiz,Zimmerman SP
                      Cumberland C
                      Villar 2B
                      Mesa LF

Not to mentioned the Machado deal

Because Atlanta would rather have Mesa in Baltimore than Miami

But if the Marlins resign Realmuto for 5-6 years, I'll take the Marlins. Guess we'll see.

It's disappointing to not get some more guys we can think about longterm, but they can still trade everyone in the next 365 days and it practically accomplishes the same goal. What can you do.

I suspect Castro will clear waivers so maybe that becomes something.

Obviously they can trade guys later, but the point is that they have a number of guys at the height of their value on a bad non contending team and they are taking a completely unnecessary risk that barraclough, Conley, jt, etc don’t lose their value or get hurt. And for what? To win 68 games instead of 64?

                          • I dont mind that JT wasn't dealt. Just hope Robles doesn't turn into superstar because we said NO 2 times

What I mind is having DD/Bour still around and 100 RP's between 25-28 yrs old. Happy we didn't give them away(Bearclaw/COnley) but we have RP's just sitting in AAA/AA who should be moved up

                            • I'm hoping we can deal Castro and Prado in August. About $37 Million left on those 2 contracts. Eat about $20-25 million of that and get some useful prospects. Move Dietrich and Anderson in from the OF, Call up Austin Dean. Play Sierra, Dean and Brinson for the last month or so in the OF.

It will be interesting if #Marlins give Isaac Galloway a callup. Right handed hiitter who can play center. that wouldn’t surprise me @cakesbaseball

Screw Austin Dean lets callup Issac Loria because he can play CF
