They also got $50 million from BAMtech sale remember, so they have a major hedge this season on top of normal revenue sharing. If they hook a minority investor, which they have been said to looking for, that debt situation starts turning around fast. I don't think it's that big of a negative, they just paid less cash for the franchise and get to pay off the remainder of the purchase price slower.

The team needs to get better. Spend money to make money.
Yes ... our logic ... but their money. Obviously, the Nats like Robles and Carter Kieboom as much as we do. I simply believe that the Marlins should add whatever it takes to make a Realmuto trade happen - that includes Marlin prospects. Guzman maybe? The Marlins need fresh new faces around the diamond.

Guzman? You're not trading your best club controlled assets. And there is no desperation here. Realmuto's value isn't changing now and November. Get the ransom, or keep him and explore an extension this offseason, or trade him then. Nothing nerve racking here.

The annoyance is if Ziegler, Barraclough, and Dietrich are Marlins at 4:30pm.

Who's the sure thing? Robles and Kieboom or control-challenged chuckers like Guzman and Alcantara? All about choices. Perhaps you give the current Marlin prospects more credence than I.

Teams don't trade prospects like that. Especially mid season. That's what I mean. Guzman isn't a throw in to a contending team either (theoretically contending).

He's a throw in if that's what it takes to mollify the Nats, that's all I'm saying. I may view Robles differently than others (I'm sure I do), but I see Mookie Betts.

One of the more ridiculous Lee Stone posts.

              • I think the only thing that could make me not be a marlins fan anymore would be if lee stone became gm

You make a great point. If I were GM you wouldn't have Prado and Chen and Ziegler and Tazawa to cheer for ... and Robles would already be wearing a Baby Cakes uniform. And you'd need a translator for Marlin post game interviews - because most of the players would be speaking Spanish

                  • It'd be the greatest collection of 29 year old AAAA players ever assembled, you have to admit that.

Hey, don't sell me short. That post wasn't nearly as ridiculous as when I predicted Richards would be our best starting pitcher this year back in the spring. Curious how "teams don't trade prospects like Guzman, especially mid-season"... yet here we are discussing Washington trading Robles & Kieboom.

Normally prospects are traded for established players in season. Not prospects for prospects.

                        ----

When are we going to see ONE trade from us?

Do I need to break down the concept of buyers and sellers at the trade deadline?

Holy shit. The Marlins are a bottom third team in the league, if not bottom 5, and you're talking about them trading one of their top 5 prospects, universally considered top 50-75, for other prospects. This is not what rebuilding teams do. They don't trade prospects for prospects.

Teams contending like the Nationals trade such prospects, for guys who can help RIGHT NOW. Guzman is not a throw in to these kind of deals. Please refer to all deadline deals in perpetuity. Are you seriously equating these things?

Also throw enough shit at the wall (Galloway, Meyer, A. Beltre, Pablo, Richards) and something is going to stick. We're all super happy about Richards. Don't give yourself a pat on the back where all of us could have predicted "1 or 2 of the 10 fringe SP prospects they have will work out."

According to the news, the Nats view themselves as both. That makes perfect sense to me.

So the Marlins are a contender and going to trade Guzman for Herrera?
