Too high in my opinion. We lost more than that last year and is this team better than that? They at least had arraez, Scott, luzardo, burger, hoeing, jazz, bell, and puk for portions of last year. Yes they get sandy back but how long is he on the team for? this team is worse than last years somehow

    • It does suck but this team needed to be completely torn apart and start over.

It had been on a perpetual rebuild for going on 20 years and there was little offensive talent on the team.

As opposed to now? Where we have Eric wagaman and Jonah bride in the heart of our lineup? The team absolutely didn’t need to be torn apart, and they are not anywhere near where they were last year and the farm is still mediocre, so how exactly is this a productive plan? If the plan is to build through the draft, that could have happened while not tearing down the team yet again

There have been other rebuilds over the years, but the franchise really feels like it’s in the worst place it’s ever been
I thought attendance would crater last year after doing nothing following a postseason appearance. But it actually slightly increased…..BUT, I think it’s a hangover effect, where last year’s terrible will affect this year’s numbers. I’ll keep track of it again this year and see how it turns out.

Beyond that, yeah it’s a goat fuck especially with all of these injuries.

fish16 will like this………it looks like ticket sales are so poor for Opening Day that the Marlins are offering a 4 for $44 deal. This is unprecedented for Opening Day.
I’ve gotten those emails. I’m not giving them any money for the foreseeable future. They don’t deserve it. I’m not even planning on watching any games this year.

they need to learn that constantly burning it down to nothing so Bruce can make more is inexcusable. Sadly, they’ll just continue using it as an excuse of why they can’t spend because people won’t come out.

they’re complete morons that can’t understand what needs to be done in this market to create success on and off the field.

I real owner would’ve taken an approach of spend to help maintain and add to the roster, while rebuilding “underneath” that.

Yes, you’ve made that very clear several times.

The problem with this line of thinking is there was nothing to "add to". They had one of the worst offenses in baseball.

so getting rid any kind of productive pieces while still having no top tier hitting prospects certainly makes that better right? it's also just not correct to say they had "nothing" to add to. Burger, Arraez, Jazz, Sanchez are all productive hitters when used correctly. Burning it down to nothing does not make that better.

These are not at all the type of players that Bendix wants to build around, though.

2 one-dimensional players, a guy with tons of potential who got hurt a lot (and was arguably a clubhouse cancer) and the classic underachiever (Sanchez).

                      • I lean towards fish16 (and in a weird full circle way, lou haha) that if this team just spent to Brewers/Mariners levels, you could squint and see a legit WC contender for a 3-4 year span that leaned on pitching. But Todd's position is defensible and could easily see it as a lost cause even with bottom 10 payroll money.

Unfortunately, I don't have much hope for this rebuild since the ownership is next level miserly + thinking Bendix was just a solid cog/product of the Rays' system who is rudderless on his own.
                        Sanchez life

By definition, you have to add to the worst offense to get better, no?

So instead, now we have worse than worse? That’s improvement….i guess?

nobody is saying they were good as is and that we needed 1 piece and good to go. The point was, there were useful pieces there, and dollars could’ve been focused on adding to useful pieces (and jettisoning the useless ones). Instead we’ve blown up an already bad lineup and are Now even worse.

don’t worry, 2033 is the year!

Well, we know what needs to be done.

                            • Marlins Opening day active payroll is $25.7 million. There are 3 teams that have active payrolls of $250 million plus. How could the MLB look at that and think that’s ok. Something has to be done. It’s a joke.

That number may be before adding the 21 players making the minimum. So it’s more like around $40 million, but still ridiculous.
