I think this guy named Carter Jensen is a good target - https://www.fangraphs.com/players/ca...ats?position=C. He is their 2nd best C prospect, a FV45, and hitting well in A+. He'll probably be promoted to AA for 3-4 months this year for a targeted summer 2025 landing. He seems like a Scott centerpiece to me as you're not getting a top 100 prospect for him. Throw in Bell with his contract to play DH, Nick Gordon for their bench and hopeful RHP bashing, and Chargois for their back pen when back, and take back three more FV40s. Would love that as creates a real catcher plan. That's a sneaky low cost move for everyone and then KC can make a bigger OF splash with their better FV45 arms, and Luzardo can be two of SS, 3B, and RF. Coby Mayo is hurt and not going to help this year now more than likely so that may be real helpful to the Marlins. Mayo, Bradfield, Norby/Stowers/Beavers, and C. Williams is a real legit deal for Luzardo IMO.

Skip kinda threw Sixto under the bus yesterday in the press conference. Not sure if that’s Skip checking out and not caring any more or just Sixto getting under peoples skin, because certainly not the first time people have openly taken shots at him.

What I am trying to say here is, maybe this wouldn't be a thing if Bruce/Bendorx gave a shit this offseason. For instance, Lorenzen - 42.1 IP, 3.61 ERS, 1.20 WHIP, 4 QS. Same old mid 4 xFIP as he has been for his career. So many lay ups have been missed.

In between all of this he hit 95+ at least 9 times with a few over 96
Last four fastballs - 93, 95, 93, 93 (70s/80s overall pitch thrown). Probably getting a little tired here.
It's intentional. He needs to be max effort for 40-50 pitches and he might actually be pretty good 1+ time through. Sixto and the organization both need to get on the same page here that is who he is right now. If they want to start him thats fine, but he needs to be throwing hard pitch 1 and not starting 20-30 pitches in. If he manages to get to 70-80 pitches doing well without losing gas, great.
This is an easy one.

What I find interesting from Skip's comments are maybe the organization isn't dictating that and Sixto is trying to "steal" an inning or two with his other stuff to save his arm capacity to go later in games. Like is this Sixto being an asshole and not a pitch mix plan the organization is behind? Because if he is holding back Skip is 100% right here. He should be throwing hard pitch 1 and if he is done in 3.2 IP so be it. Look at the statcast his last two starts. It's bizarre if Sixto is doing that on his own.

Conversely, if it takes Sixto that long to warm up now and he is doing a normal routine to give him a benefit of a doubt and still just needs more time, even more of a reason to make him a 12-15 batter pitcher as he clearly only has juice for 40-50 pitches then. Throw Rogers 2 times through and pop in Sixto hitting 96 MPH which would play up as a new look, etc. Sixto is a 3.71 xFIP 2nd time through the order, i.e. after he is warmed up and steady 94/95 with 96 peaks. It's not good 1st time through when he is throwing hot garbage...... so warm up more?????
Anyways, I think he is really interesting on the field even if he is being stupid off. Hope it works out for him as he has going through A LOT of rehab to land here on one of the only MLB teams that would play him at the MLB level right now.

not necessary to overthink it. He's a bad pitcher who doesnt take it seriously. it's been apparent since he got hurt in 2021 spring. how many times does the guy have to look like a fat slob who is unprepared before you stop expecting something different? He's just not good. Stop thinking of him as sixto the top prospect. this is not the same guy. skip said that yesterday. he has succumb to a combo of bad injuries and not taking his craft seriously. he stinks. it's as simple as that. his average fastball is now down 4.2 MPH from 2020. He has the 8th lowest strikeout rate in the entire league out of guys who have pitched 20 or more innings. he wont be around next year.Last edited by fish16; 05-20-2024, 12:14 PM.

The Marlins are doing the only thing they can considering the situation. They aren't in a playoff race, see if he can figure it out at the major league level before the end of the year, and if not they have to try and sneak him through waivers or let him go.

it's a Miami Marlins message board. Overthinking things sometimes is perfectly acceptable.
Sixto is a very bad pitcher in the 1st inning
Sixto is not a bad pitcher in every other inning
Why do you insist on constantly comparing his FB velo to his velo from pre-injury FOUR years ago. Everyone here is acutely aware that this is no longer top prospect Sixto. But in every other inning except the 1st he's doing well (as lou illustrated using xFIP).
Maybe there could still be a middle reliever there.

And if my aunt had balls she'd be my uncle. The first inning matters. the totality is a bad pitcher, no matter how you want to split hairs to try to will him being good into existence. He's a terrible middle reliever. He doesnt throw hard and he has one of the lowest k rates in the league plus walks a lot of guys. he's a bad pitcher no matter where you put him.Last edited by fish16; 05-20-2024, 01:03 PM.

I agree there seems to be some attitude/preparation/conditioning issues, but say we dropped him right now, this is a guy who will bounce around AAA , for years possibly, in hopes that he figures it out and becomes maybe a decent #5 or middle reliever.
