And Brazoban who is also bleeding red all over, but he walks a lot of guys and doesn't throw as hard. (xERA 3.49). And Okert (xERA 3.22) and Chargois (xERA 3.15) are no slouches. These are really good middle guys.
(Don't look at Lopez though, but he throws real hard so maybe they fix him)
This is frankly a dominant Meyer or Sixto (or Cabrera) being placed on top of this from being a great bullpen longterm. They have these guys for years.
I wonder if they offer Scott something like a 3/$18-21m extension. Relievers are volatile, he doesn't have the track record, and is a year from free agency so it could all blow up in his face, so maybe he'd cash in. And if he is this moving forward, Marlins get a huge profit as this is a $10-12m reliever per year in free agency easily.

id try to give scott a 3 year deal that buys out his last year of arbitration next year for 3 years 18-21 million. at worst it's not a terrible contract if he regresses. At best, if this is for real, you have a huge weapon out of the bullpen for his theoretical prime at a really good deal. Makes a ton of sense for both sides to get it done. The multi year reliever market hasnt been much more than that the last few years in free agency and im sure his agent will sit down and have a realistic conversation about the reliever market and how volatile relievers just generally are on a year to year basis. Makes sense.
Him and nardi have been absolutely lights out though. Puk had been too prior to the last month and his analytics look a lot better than i thought it would have looked at this point, so hopefully he figures it out going down the stretch.
Said it last night, but it just feels like the entire bullpen needs to take a deep breath and relax into their roles again. When you get in those losing streaks it feels like the games just come and come and things at some point just get out of whack a little and the confidence wavers. Here things got out of whack a ton. Felt like there has not been a coherent or consistent role for anyone over the last month after 3 really good months of consistent roles and fairly consistent performance throughout. . Hopefully with Robertson there now and Nardi back, everyone can kind of settle down and skip can start managing games again in a way that makes some sort of sense. Robertson closing, Scott and Nardi set up, Puk eventually getting back into the middle relief/set up roles, Okert helping give quality 6th or 7th innings, and then the rest of the group getting back to eating innings in case of bad starts. Id really like to see us stop using Brazoban, Soriano, Chargois when he gets back, and Lopez in set up/close situations. We have a good bullpen, everyone just needs to take a deep breath and settle down.Last edited by fish16; 08-09-2023, 12:53 PM.

and that's not just limited to the bullpen either. When you get into these losing funks, the confidence can go so quickly and the thought process that we had in the first half of being able to come back from anything very quickly goes to how the fuck are we going to blow this game today. The lineup has looked to have lost confidence as well, and justifiably so because they have been awful in key situations, so hopefully last nights game was the start of the turning point into us playing more consistent ball again instead of just a blip in a losing streak that will continue the rest of the month.
We desperately need cueto to give us some good innings today. Dont love him in this ballpark against this lineup though. I could see him giving up 3-4 homers again.

even though cueto does get hit around sometimes, he at least gets somewhat deep in games because he isnt blowing anything by guys much any more and working deep counts. He's efficient with his pitches and pitching to contact and just hoping that contact stays in the ballpark. Helps to eat a lot of innings. He's becoming the back end innings eater we hoped he could be. Just with a brief 3 month hiatus from the big league roster to get absolutely torched in the minors. Still makes no sense how he can be so competitive up here and so bad in the minors.
