Smeltzer has terrible numbers yet they brought him of all people up for ONE DAY TO FACE PHILLY because they saw favorable match ups and it worked BEAUTIFULLY.

    What backs up your argument?

He was brought up because he could give several innings. I've said this a couple times already. He was not brought up because he had some special skill of getting Phillies batters out and no one else.

Myers has a .468 BABIP in AAA and Johnston .462. Edwards' .380 BABIP in AAA is extremely high. Maybe slow down juuuuuust a bit here. Lots of SSS, but Edwards is far and away out performing these guys for obvious reasons here. He's probably hitting 50+ points higher than those two once everything regresses and the only one over .300.

It would be thrilling if they get an OK regular/heavy platoon side starter from any three of them (+ Amaya). Frankly I will be thrilled with 1 heavy platoon guy and the bench from those 4. That would be great to work with Fortes, Arraez, Burger, Jazz, Sanchez, DLC, and maybe Cappe and Berry quickly become options by summer 2025. Basically, trade for a longterm SS and C and they might have the rest of the roster short and long term.

If he’s been awful lately why wasn’t a different pitcher brought up?

          Why Smeltzer?

Because it was his day to pitch in AAA.

you think they brought Devin fucking Smeltzer up for one day because they saw favorable matchups and not because they needed innings because the night before they pitched every guy they had out of the bullpen other than puk? Your argument makes 0 sense. How does my numbers that show he is a truly horrific major league pitcher support your theory. They clearly brought him in because they needed an arm with the bullpen taxed and with johnny cueto going the next day. There is a reasion puk was the first guy in that day. It's because he was the only guy out of the pen to not pitch the previous day. You dont even believe the stupid fucking argument youre making that they saw favorable matchups for smeltzer. He doesnt have any favorable matchups against other major league hitters.

it was also because he had been with the team that whole week in the event that Cabrera got traded and they needed an arm to come up and fill a spot for a day. That's why Mish said he was there. He wasnt just called up for that game, he had been with the team in case of trades all week

This is the only reason I’ve heard so far that makes sense and proves me wrong.

fish16 telling me “Devin Smeltzer is one of the worst pitchers we have!1!1!1” does NOTHING to prove me wrong on WHY HE WAS CALLED UP TO THE MAJORS.

because they need innings and every guy other than puk pitched out of the bullpen the day before. That's why puk was the first guy out of the pen as well. Same reason why they called jeff lindgren up multiple times this year. same with Sean Nolin, Chi Chi Gonzalez, Johan Quezada, and even Geoff Hartlieb literally yesterday? Is this your first time watching baseball? What kind of dumb conversation is this?

Why did they call up Smeltzer (whose numbers are awful) and not a milb arm with not awful numbers?

                      Answer the question.

Again, the only thing that proves me wrong so far is what Nick said. All your usual fucking bullshit is skating around my question.

Name who they should have called other than him. Hoeing and Castano were not scheduled to pitch until the next day so they would have been eating innings on short rest. The only other guys that are on the 40 man and are actually healthy are Jose Castillo, also awful, Eury, Ryan Weathers, and Josh Simpson, who has a 6.5 ERA in AAA and isnt a long reliever. This was a guy they were bringing up to eat innings then DFA him. This happens all the time in baseball. I cant actually tell if you're just trying to argue or if you truly think they brought him up because they were really hoping for some good ole innings from Devin fucking Smeltzer. Tell me, if they thought he was such a good guy to come out and crush some guys out of the bullpen, why did they immediately DFA him a day later after 3 scoreless innings when they needed another fresh arm in Weathers?

IDK if you're having a brainfart or what but you sound legitimately dumb trying to make the argument that they brought devin smeltzer and his 6 AAA ERA up to really mow down some phillies out of the bullpen.

                        • is skip fucking with the fans at this point. I get that a lefty is on the mound tonight, but how do you not put arraez in the lineup? But you do put joey fucking wendle in the lineup against a lefty? How has this guy turned into a terrible manager?

                              • on a related note, we have by far the least amount of team homers since the all star break with just 16 in 21 games. Giants are 29th in the league with 19. Braves lead the league with 43 in 1 fewer game than us. We're still 10th in average since the all star break. Just cannot buy the big extra base hits they need.
