they kept fucking wendle instead of Hampson and wendle is starting again tonight. Bell hitting 3rd, Jazz 4th Berger hitting 5th, Garcia 6th, and Sanchez 7th. Much deeper and powerful lineup. but still wendle and the C spot 8th and 9th. I just dont get not going and grabbing grandal and seeing if we can get the catcher spot some production for the rest of the year. Grandal in a down year has 4 more XBH's than Fortes and Stallings combined this year.

yes, i got the 2 switched. Garcia in his defense has gone 4-8 with just 1 k in his first 2 games back and has hit the ball hard. Im fine with it until he sucks again, or maybe it gives him the confidence to keep hitting well. He also crushed the ball in his rehab stint so id let it ride until he cools down. Id like to see burger hitting higher though eventually.

hampson isnt good, but he has been very solid this year and wendle is flat out awful, and has been for 2 years. This franchise has 0 repercussions for long term terrible performance. It's been 2 years of Wendle and Stallings being flat out horrific. IF no one wanted them at the deadline, DFA them and move on. It is a sunk cost. They have actively made their team worse for 2 years with these 2 guys on the roster getting significant playing time. Every night it's the same non-competitive at bats with shitty contact. They bring no speed, no power, no ability to draw walks, wendle has been average defensively, and stallings has been a -.9 WAR over 2 years. It's enough already, there has to be consequences for horrible performance. Give some of these other guys in AAA a shot or go get someone for cheap yesterday. You have Edwards, Amaya, Myers, and hell even austin allen in AAA playing well. why do Wendle and Stallings get to be fucking awful for 2 years and never get DFA'd simply because bruce doesnt want to pay them to not play?

I agree, you should calm down, this is the last guy on the bench and not a needle mover with what they have internally. Also to note, Stallings is a disaster but Wendle has a 1.3 WAR in 600 PA for the Marlins. That is not a disaster and I'm just defending Joey's honor here, even if that is not very great and spiking down huge this year. If they like him over Hampson, Myers, Edwards, and Amaya, so be it. Everyone is likely a middling contributor ROS. He won't be playing more than 2 days a week here on out. This is all a nothing burger.

Their SS position is the exact same, and he has been playing 4-5 times per week. He has 208 ab's already this year and he missed a full month + from April 2nd to May 7th. Since the all star break alone he has started 13 games out of 16. What would change that? They continue to play him every day against righties as if he is some sort of positive hitter against righties. He flat out sucks against righties and lefties. He is as close to Jean segura in terms of WRC+ as he is Dane Myers, who only had a 81 WRC+ himself. He has been flat out awful, and they are continuing to play him on an almost every day basis.

Something doesnt have to change the entire course of the season for it to be a dumb fucking move. Making the wrong decision on a bunch of little things do add up to needle movers. Both Stallings and Wendle playing as much as they do absolutely does move the needle in a negative direction.

Because they just got Bell and Burger who are going to play A LOT and Jazz and Garcia are back. This all has an impact on Berti playing all over, i.e. SS.

I would hope for this personally based on a 6 game week. Starts per week:

C Fortes 3 / Stallings 3
1B Bell 6
2B Arraez 6
SS Berti 4-5 / Wendle 1-2
3B Burger 6
LF DLC 3 / Garcia 3
CF Jazz 4 / DLC 2
RF Sanchez 4 / Garcia 2
DH Soler 6

Not listed - Yuli who gets 2 starts a week for an every other week off day for Bell, Arraez, Burger, and Soler. Jazz is listed as 4 because of health/righties, and Sanchez because you can only play him on righties too.

The main 4 guys have to eat here IMO. Sink or swim. They can effectively platoon the OF around Jazz off days and lefties for Sanchez. I know CF is an adventure there with DLC but what else can they do with this personnel right now?

Wendle is fighting DLC and Garcia for playing time IMO, and I can't see him winning that battle for an offensive starved team. He's a Berti off day and late game substitution to me here on out.

And they do get to add 2 bats in September so it's going to get worse for him when two of Dane, Hampson, and Edwards can be called up.

1.3 war over a seasons worth of at bats is not starting caliber. A league average starter is 2 war. 0 war doesn’t mean an average player. He also has .1 war this year in 200 plus at bats. That is not a starting caliber player. He has a 68 wrc+, meaning he is 32% worse than the average major league hitter. He has been awful this year.

Among ss’s with at least 100 at bats, wendle is 35th in wrc+ and 34th in war.
