  • Hear me out:

    1. Arraez 1B
    2. Edwards 2B
    3. Soler RF
    4. Jazz CF
    5. Burger 3B
    6. Bell DH
    7. Garcia/DLC/Sanchez
    8. Berti SS
    9. Catcher

Obviously it won't happen, but surprised that if they're so insistent on not calling up Edwards that he wasn't involved in one of these trades.

I think you will see Edwards at 2b next year, Arraez at 1b, Bell at DH, we get a C and SS, and then the OF remains the same. They clearly just dont think Edwards can help this year for some reason i just dont get. I wouldnt mind seeing a bench next year with legitimate young talent in Myers, Edwards, and Johnston on there.

Agreed. The rotation isn’t necessarily bad as is. If someone gets hurt, you could be in trouble, but adding a guy who CAN start is really what they needed to do. A guy like Flaherty would have been nice if you could have gotten him cheap, but there was never a reason to do any more. In Weathers, you get that bare minimum, but he also comes with control and some upside, and the organization has proven they can develop guys like that. Getting a guy like that for very little feels like a solid move.

no, he is a 2b/CF and he doesnt appear to be great at either. He is just there for his bat and speed. He has no power and limited fielding ability. Id guess that's why they refuse to call him up, but there is no reason why he hasnt gotten a second chance up here yet. He has proven everything he can in AAA

            • Eury is pitching tonight in AA. He has to be back next time Cabrera's turn comes up right? How can they possibly justify wasting more of his innings in AA?

                • Tbh I don't think it's a bad deadline. The only other moves I think could have been made were PBTNL/cash consideration for arms with options to stick in AAA to use to rest the young arms(players on the level of a Nick Neidert or Robert Dugger).

None of our players are good/have bad reputations defensively though.

I’m fine with putting Edwards somewhere for more offense (+ more speed).

                    • one thing i like about both Bell and Burger- they both hit both righties and lefties. Burger smashes the shit out of lefties but hit's righties well as well. Just a really good hitter who hits the shit out of the ball. Josh bell has a .763 OPS against lefties and an .813 OPS against righties as well. No platoons, just good players who arent subject to bad platoon splits and hit the ball really fucking hard.

i wouldnt mind it but i think there is a reason he hasnt played much SS outside of 20 games last year. He doesnt have the arm. Id give it a shot but id rather just move him to our 2b next year, Arraez to 1b, Bell to DH when Soler walks, and burger to 3b. As it is, until next year and we can move bell to DH to replace soler, our infield defense is not going to be great the rest of the year. It wasnt great to begin with so who gives a fuck but it wont be great.

                        • good god joey wendle is impossibly bad. why not DFA him, bring up Edwards, and have hampson as the backup SS? Wendle is an automatic ground out every fucking at bat.

                          • Would have been nice to pinch hit for Wendle there, but I guess the bench is short as it is tonight. Wendle stinks, and has no business ever hitting against a lefty.

                            • Why is Wendle still on this team?

Castano has been pitching well in AAA lately. Since we didn’t pick up another starter I think we’re going to need innings out of Castano/Hoeing/Monteverde.
