This is the main thing for me.

I’m assuming they did, which is why we gave up Watson.

I'm guessing they see Weathers as replacing Eder. He's struggled this year, but he is over a year younger than Eder.
100% - look at that 11 K/9 in AAA this year. Sure lots of other problems but I like this gamble

      • I would assume they are thinking they can get out of the Segura deal.

But Bell has a $16 million player option for next season.

So they might have ended up trading Watson just to save $2 million.

        • bell has good peripherals. Watson is not that great. he's a dickhead off the field and not particularly good on the field. He is a kid that was apparently super talentd but had no ability to handle the inevitable struggles as a pro. He might break out but i wouldnt bet on it.

They have to be eating it.

              The net result of adding Bell and subtracting all of Segura and Cooper is + $9m over this and next year. The aggregate of those trades are;

              Bell, Weathers, Adding $9m
              Segura, Cooper, Watson, Reynolds

Bells expected slash is .273/.358/.455. Stat cast is bleeding red. Cleveland must love Watson.

We don’t actually know the truth about what he’s like off the field, and while he hasn’t been great on it, he hasn’t been bad, and has had some flashes of very good. Maybe he never makes it, but let’s not just write him off like he was worthless. He was one of their best prospects.

                • im glad we didnt trade more prospects for a SP. Roll with what we have. No need to give up prospects for a rental when we have what we have in the rotation and coming up in the minors. Glad we hung onto meyer, i think he will be a key player next year.

I really like the 2 additions. I think Bell has been super unlucky based on his peripherals, and Berger has been good despite bad luck as well in spots. Most importantly, they got more dynamic. Arraez has been amazing, but you just arent going to score runs consistently hitting singles and never hitting for extra base hits. Cooper was thoroughly mediocre, and segura just didnt have it this year for whatever reason. You need to be able to slug in runs, and we have more of that now with Jazz back, Bell here, burger here, and hopefully garcia can get it going a little. That's much more dynamic, but i wish we got either a SS or a C. Why not go after Grandal if he cost nothing? Just doesnt make sense. I wonder if the White Sox just DFA him and allow him to sign somewhere. We have 2 clear needs now in the offseason, SS and C. They need to do everything possible to upgrade those positions badly.

I didn’t realize it was an opt out.

But if he opts out they save $9m or so versus Segura and Cooper. I’ll double check math in a bit

                    • how the fuck is weathers still so young? It feels like he's been around for years. I like the chance on him. He was a backend top 100 at points. Former first rounder i believe, throws hard, maybe can become a backend of the rotation guy or a valuable bullpen arm.

                      • Bell isnt opting out of next year's deal.

                        • What’s our rotation the rest of the season?

                          Sandy, Luzardo, Garrett, Cueto, Eury/Weathers/Cabrera?

                          Comment

                          • one thing bell adds on top of the power is the on base ability. he has really good plate discipline. Doesnt K a ton and walks a good deal. .347 career OBP. Really solid player having a super unlucky season based on his peripherals. He's hitting .233 and his XBA is .269, slugging .383 and expected slugging is .455.

I'd expect them to trot out this lineup:

                            Arraez
                            Soler
                            Jazz
                            Burger
                            Bell
                            DLC
                            Sanchez
                            SS
                            C

DLC and Sanchez moving down the lineup will help us score runs more consistently.

Yes. I'd expect Eury to be back next time through the rotation. Then Cabrera and Weathers up in September out of the bullpen.

                              • i can get behind this version of Garcia. Swinging a much better bat since coming back. him and Sanchez should be a pure platoon in RF.
