Then there is Cueto. He'd be the 12th guy. Are they cutting him loose?

And you have Nardi, Brazoban, Soriano, and others with options. They can pitch these guys 3 times over 4 days if needed and go with Nardi up 5, send down, Brazoban up for 5, send Brazoban down, Soriano up for 5, call Nardi back up and send Soriano down, and repeat this cycle to kick out the call ups/downs every 10 days. If anyone has a huge innings outing for mop up, call up Hoeing as a brief replacement or Reynolds. This effectively would make your 13th rostered pitcher pitching 5+ innings a week which is a lot for 1 bullpen spot. That's starting level innings for the roster spot. So you start eating into innings through an aggressive call up strategy of numerous of your optionable arms. A lot of flights here for these 3-4 guys over 1-2 months, but it is a way to find innings. Then September 1st, you get to keep two of them up with roster expansion. And perhaps, you keep up this same plan with the 3-4 of them and Rogers is the added player if he can rehab. God willingly.

So how does Bednar fit in here? Not sure. He'd be replacing Cueto, or a luxury upgrade for Chargois sort of thing. And Cueto is probably being replaced by a more dedicated SP as is right now?

I think the pen is done absent them trading one of Chargois, Scott, or Okert and a spot opens.

Who is R. Garcia?

Bullpen right now once nardi comes back will be Puk, Robertson, Nardi, Okert, Scott, Chargois, Lopez, and then likely Brazoban. Soriano and Hoeing will be sent down prior to tonight's game if Lopez and robertson are here already.

Rotation currently is Sandy, Luzardo, Garrett, Cueto, and Cabrera if he doesnt need to go to the IL for the blister.

That is 13 pitchers. Then you have Stallings, Fortes, Cooper, Gurriel, Arraez, Wendle, Berti, Hampson, Segura, Sanchez (is he ok?), DLC, Myers, Soler.

That is 26. I could see Edwards coming up and replacing Myers. I think 4-5 of those guys will be replaced by Tuesday, namely Hampson, Cooper, Stallings, Fortes, Wendle.

Candelario, Soler, Lynn, Roberson, and Kelly only free agents and still have Rogers, Nardi, Meyer, Eder, and Bender, and a slew of other arms to fill out staff (as I imagine Cueto and one of Garcia/Chargois is also jettisoned there. They'd have the arms basically).

All eyes then on Bruce for resigning Candelario if we think he holds up, or signing a bat for literally any position. They can probably have their 13th man be Myers/Amaya IMO.

Basically, worry about 2025 after 2024. The team is set for 2024 even shooting out hypothetically 8 of your top 25 prospects (and 10 of top 25 with Vargas and Hernandez) with plenty of MLB control.

cappe/watson and maldonado for candelario is not a significant price. Watson hasnt played well since he got here and has been constantly injured. Cappe has a .602 OPS in high A ball. Maldonado is a reliever in AAA. That's not a significant price. We fall in love with these names and most of them are just names. Kind of like Jose Salas. The vast majority of these guys will either become mlb bench guys or never be big leaguers at all. It's obviously a risk because Watson has talent and id prefer Cappe be traded, but whatever, we overrate prospects.

id try to use rogers to get one bat and eder to get another. I think rogers still has some sort of value, but i dont think he will ever get back to what he was. We have better pitchers and if he can get you a piece, so be it. He's going on 2 full calendar years of either really bad performance or injury.

You have told me for months I undervalue all the Marlins prospects, that Candelario will not cost anything significant, and now we're trading their top 100 guy preseason and # 1 pick we all loved when drafted for a 2 month rental. Yes their performance dictates changes in opinion, but we're on quite the seesaw. That being said, assuming they fill out the roster with more moves, there is no reason not to do that, with the caveat they should really extend Candelario in this scenario assuming he doesn't have outrageous demands on a 4-5 year deal. A solid 2-3 year deal for him is a no brainer for every team in baseball.

Yes, we all loved him when he was drafted. He was drafted over 2 years ago. Since then he hasnt been very good when he has played and has been a nightmare off the field last year. He mimicked shooting an ump with his bat after a bad call for fucks sake and was sent back to the rookie league. Who was their top 100 preseason guy? I didnt see Cappe in a top 100 list. I liked him but i never valued him like that. And he's been bad this year. I still like Watson's potential, but he isnt close to a slam dunk. I dont have any untouchables aside from Eury. Anyone else can go in the right deal for all i care. They have a window to win, and this same core is still under team control for next year, so it's not like this will completely blow up and everyone is gone next year. In theory, they should be even better next year.

And Candelario won't cost a top 100 guy. That's what i've said. He will cost a guy around the #10 range in the system and then a guy around #20 in our system. He's a rental. If he had even 1 more year of control he would cost a lot more than that. But he's a 60 game rental.

Id love to extend candelario on a modest 2-3 year deal, but i doubt he signs an extension before testing free agency.

That's why they make chocolate and vanilla. I love the potential of Rogers and Eder and feel confident that they will be excellent some day soon. Trading low on them would not be the way to go.
I'd trade Garrett, but the return would likely be small. Alcantara is the one you could still get a haul for. How about Soto (1.5 seasons) Snell (.5 season), Campusano (5 years) and another prospect from SD? I'd even toss De La Cruz or J Sanchez into the deal.
