Why are they talking about us having a bullpen day on Sunday?

They were going to have to have one bullpen day (or Hoeing or Cueto) game 4 or 5 out of the break, but it seems to me they prefer to do it game 3 as they can manage an extra rest day out of Luzardo. They do need to watch his innings a bit and they have some good off days coming up so I do get maximizing his off time. But I was expecting this to happen in late August once they presumably obtain an arm, Rogers is back/about back, Eury is up, and rosters expand to get another arm up. Luzardo also kicked the Cardinals ass two start ago FWIW.

In any event, this one is not a big deal beyond how frustrating these first two games have been, provided that after this game Sandy, Garrett, Luzardo, or Cabrera start every game until Eury is up expected about August 1st IMO. They can skip Luzardo 2-3 times final 6 weeks or elongate rest. However, Rogers had his last MRI/moved to 60 day around June 12-14th, and Cueto had his third terrible minor league start over 2 weeks ago. So they frankly have known about needing a pitcher for at least 2, likely over 3 weeks, and have done nothing. I think this is the real story here - where are the fucking trades? They needed a bat 6 weeks ago and an arm at least 3 weeks ago. Bruce? Kim? Both? Internal frustration and no one is realistically selling yet from the teams with legitimate arms and I don't mean Greinke?


In other news to find a positive, since June 10th (arbitrary day he got some hits to get largest sample size), Segura is hitting...... 77 PA, .306/.351/.431 (.333 BABIP), 2 HR, 6.5% BB / 13% K, basically neutral defense. That's a 2.2+ WAR pace per 600 PA, so normal Segura. He might be course correcting. The July split is even better (.809 OPS) and he hit those two HR in June which have a large weight on the stats with these small sample sizes, so he's been good. Hopefully this means we're getting normal Segura now.


But back to.... hello Bruce? Kim? Are they secretly hoping to crater so they can move Soler and Scott for a motherload in a combo and get some minor pieces for Cooper, Floro, and Chargois? I don't get not doing anything to help these guys for a month.

Yeah I don’t really get this either.

The only move has been Chapman to the Rangers, and I don’t think that was a need for us.

The trade deadline is a couple of weeks away.

If the season is lost in the next couple of weeks because we couldn’t beat the Cardinals, Rockies & Tigers, we probably weren’t a playoff caliber team to begin with.

Trades usually don’t happen in bunches in mid-July. Even less so now that there are three wildcards per league.

If they don’t make a move by the deadline, I’d be disappointed, but I am guessing they will make a couple of trades.

Eury wasn’t getting a full workload this year, it is what it is.

Cueto actually threw 3 scoreless, they scored 4 in the 9th, and Arraez is the final out to end his 0 for 5 day.
