Alcantra is a pitch to contact pitcher who, even in his Cy year, gave up his fair share of hits and isn't a big K guy(and even last year pitched way above where his peripherals said he should have been statistically).

It shouldn't be shocking that he is struggling to adapt to the pitch clock and shift being made illegal.

Hopefully he can make the adjustments necessary. He still has flashes.

Not sure I agree with this fully, but I do think some shift downgrade and the pitch clock may explain some, not all, of this.

I think a lot of it is mental and he is stressing at this point. He needs a breather. Skip him next time around. Hoeing, Hoeing!, is better right now.

Arraez just grounded into double play 82 at 74 games, 7 innings.

87 more games to go. On pace for 178. Last year's high team was 140. 2021 148. 2019 146. I went back to 2013 before giving up and no one close. Google has some team in the 60s getting over 200, so I feel this is a really ominous pace and very bad.

You don’t strike out 207 batters in a season being a pitch to contact pitcher. There’s a middle ground between Jose Fernandez level of k’s and being a pitch to contact guy

I mean that's 8th in quantity and 26th on rate. That is very good. He strikes out a lot of people. 14th most since opening day 2020, and many guys behind him aren't that far away in innings (Webb, F. Valdez, Berrios) so we can't necessarily point the innings out. But sure he isn't Cole or Strider?


I think the issue is he just sucks right now and a lot of it is probably mental. He needs a breather. Skip him the Boston series and line him up for Braves (7/2) and Phillies (any game) to get to the ASB. He'll have two starts between June 22 and July 14th to really figure out what the hell is going on. It's just 1 start to course correct him. He needs it.

or just put him on the il with a BS injury and let him get a turn or 2 in AAA to work out the kinks. He's been bad but the FIP is good and like i said, it's not constantly getting pelted by other teams, it is consistently just huge innings and otherwise clean starts for the most part. It's why he's still on pace for 208 innings.
