Like I said, you get the hitter available and these pieces can be moved around. The 3 ???s you have to fucking knock it out of the park. You need an above average starting catcher, and the other two need to be star level hitters.

i hadnt looked into amaya much because of how bad he started, but he has been really good in may. Hopefully that continues. We have a bunch of solid middle infield prospects, hopefully 2 of them pan out and next year we can have edwards and nunez/amaya in the middle, segura we have to keep at 3b next year since he's under contract, and then arraez at 1b. If we keep either of Soler or cooper next year, they DH. So it really boils down to, can they find an impact hitting catcher, and where do they find that stud corner outfielder that can be elite immediately. that's the path towards contention and actually scoring runs.

If they are willing to spend, Yasmani grandal makes a shit ton of sense. there are no real good catchers available and he has been a consistently good hitter his entire career. That's an enormous upgrade. He went to UM too so maybe he would actually be interested in signing here unlike most other big name guys. There is your Jayson werth addition (wont be close to that many years). then you trade pitching for a corner outfielder and we could be working with something.

You keep Segura but you don't have to play him every day, he's been terrible. Maybe he has a big 2nd half, but outside of that he looks like a bench player to me, and Garcia makes even more money but they have to just DFA him again barring him somehow becoming a starting level player again by the end of the season.

We will see what segura's final stat line is at the end of the year, but i think he will come around eventually. His bb and k rates are right in line with his career averages, his BABIP is absurdly low still which has led to so many double plays and made him so frustrating to watch. His exit velocity is tied for the highest of his career, and his hard hit rate is actually the highest of his career per stat cast. If we had another option at 3b or a top prospect to plug in there it would be one thing, but we really dont at all. I'll give him the year and hopefully the luck starts changing.

If you’re talking about this year. I agree, but if they’re not showing significant improvement by the end of the year. Garcia needs to be gone and Segura needs to go to the bench/lefty split guy.

agreed, but then the question is who plays 3b. We have literally no other option in the entire system. And his stats indicate a regression to the mean is coming. Or we just have the worst luck in the world and he sucks now. We're the marlins so it's possible.

Yasmani grandal as the big free agent addition for 2 years would be amazing. Instant upgrade, legitimate power, great defensively for his career. Just gotta hope his peak wasnt steroid powered like a ton of those UM guys are.

mlb.com has westburg at 52, kjerstad at 53, and Basallo probably isnt far behind them soon to be on top 100 lists given his play this year. you arent getting that for a guy who hasnt been good in 2 years and another guy rehabbing from tommy john surgery. i can get behind the idea though.

A big bat should be the #1 priority. Regardless of position. There’s literally no position that is locked up by anybody. Jazz could be moved back to 2nd Arraez could be moved to 1st. Get the best bat you possibly can.

Jazz defensive numbers - so far - are incredible so there is 0 reason to move him. You imagine he improves on top so this should be pretty stable. https://www.fangraphs.com/players/ja...ts?position=2B

I don't think you pay for a CF, nor a 1B (Arraez probably) or DH (fungible + Berry), but sure anywhere else but SS and C they can move guys around. SS and C likely make the most sense though.

BTW, Fangraphs also did a deep dive on SS and Adames is the best free agent until 2028 at the position. And project him to get over $200m. Add it to the list of why the fuck didn't they sign a SS?

Westburg is skeptical defensively, and would profile as a 2B if that. Gunnar has effectively become their every day 3B already and Jackson Holliday looks amazing and on the "call up at 20 years old" fast track with what he is doing. Not sure he is the fit.

I like the idea of signing a pretty notable SP and trading two of them, probably Rogers (arbitration eligible) and best deal of Cabrera/Meyer/Eder for two major bats. As said above, add in some cheap guys (Hoskins? Cooper? Soler? Rosario? I guess Grandal?) and its a quick turnover of the lineup.

Can't sign guys this old for what he'd command. Maybe they stick around a year or two, but look at Jose Abreu. He's the worst player in the league.
