not sure what the contract was but i remember michael morse being distinctly bad too. Mish brought this up as a hypothetical, but who says no, garcia for ozuna. I quite frankly am tired of seeing garcia's face. I would take ozuna back just to get rid of garcia. Both of them have some not great things in their private life past. Ozuna obviously much more so than Garcia.

Garcia for Stanton.
Garcia, Wendle, Barnes, Amaya
Stanton, O. Peraza, Hicks, FV40 prospect outside top 20, another FV40 prospect outside top 20, $25-40m
Wendle/Amaya are the IF depth now and later (and Wendle is very useful to them here). Barnes is a small salary deflection as the Marlins do have BP arms
Effectively the Marlins are absorbing $40-60m here over a few seasons so this would be a set up to the Yankees then using that money in a second deal and more comfortably stay away from luxury tax thresholds. That's the thing here, the Yankees have endless money, but they do need to be conscious about the tax so this actually *really* helps them out moving out Stanton. Assuming they could get a bat at the deadline which I have high confidence Brian Cashman can figure out, they'd be in great shape. This is more of a long term leveling out play for the Yankees though versus winning this year, so I find this hard. We could dream the Marlins would take on a little money and get a SS + Stanton, but likely too complicated.
I'm looking squarely at this though:
P. Corbin - 2/$49m
Garcia - 3/$41m.
Cueto, Rogers, Eder, and Meyer are hurt.
Victor Robles has a .745 career OPS against lefties and has been excellent in CF for his career. $2.3m this year, club option $3.3m next year.
There might be something there. Corbin has xFIP of 4.12-4.48 ERAs last 4 seasons(!) so maybe they can ring 200 innings out of him next 2 years and Robles might be an OK enough limited backup. He has a nice K rate so far this year FWIW. Might be a beneficial dump if the Nationals just want to save $10m.

It's not worth discussing, cuz it'll never happen, but a scenario where you could get Stanton/Peraza for Garcia/Wendle/Barnes.
Garcia/Wendle/Barnes - $50.5 million
Stanton - (Yankees $ remaining) $130 million
= $79.5 million
Cut that in half to $40 million, I think it'd be worth it. Basically paying $40 million for a young controllable starting SS and a slight upgrade to Garcia.

I think a Corbin/Robles dump for Garcia is interesting though as mentioned

Also I think I misunderstood the Smeltzer deal. Obviously not a lot of press on it.
I've been trying to figure it out. Maybe this Tweet is it - https://twitter.com/DanielAlvarezEE/...56879191396352
He's paid at a $1m rate when ACTIVE, but it's not guaranteed otherwise? I have no idea if that can happen.
