He most likely is to some degree, he basically hit like a pitcher in the first half, so that probably wasn't going to continue, but even if he gets back to his baseline which is probably somewhere in the .600-.650 OPS range, is that worth keeping Fortes as the backup?

fortes should have been starting from day 1 this year. I still have no idea why the fuck they had peyton henry as the backup catcher to begin the year. make that make sense.

With cooper out, fine play aguilar who gives a shit, but in what world does it make sense for him to play 1st and a gold glove caliber guy in lewin to DH. there is literally 0 coherent plan in anything this franchise has done for the 2 years since ng got here.

Pinch running for Bleday in the 7th inning when it would only take 1 more baserunner for his spot to come up again (with a short bench, no less) is an all time dumb Mattingly move...and there have been lots of them.

The Marlins got a gift last night with Avi getting injured. They need to IL him, DFA Aguilar, and send Sanchez or DLC down and call up Jerar and Burdick. Just let Bleday, Jerar, Burdick, LeBlanc, Lewin, and Fortes get 2 full months of at bats. It would be the only way to make the rest of this season even the slightest bit interesting.

Pinch running for Bleday in the 7th inning when it would only take 1 more baserunner for his spot to come up again (with a short bench, no less) is an all time dumb Mattingly move...and there have been lots of them.

Especially considering Bleday came in the game in the Avisail Garcia injury. Unbelievably shortsighted.

Regarding aguilar- first off, he shouldn't be on the team at all anymore as his power is all but gone and he's a bat only fat singles hitter now, but if he is going to stay, he either needs to be a bench bat only or if he's going to play, stop fucking hitting him in the heart of the lineup. There are 0 repercussions for anyone in this lineup for hitting poorly and no vision to get young guys more plate appearances. I don't care if they are going to struggle, get the young guys the most at bats.

I don't necessarily disagree with his comments because he's 100% right about how this team has to operate from a disadvantage payroll wise which was an indirect shot at the owner, but they also operate at a strategy disadvantage because he is one of the most terrible and nonsensical managers out there.
