Erik Gonzalez is a 30 year old with a .245/.276/.345 career line.Amy Adams, AKA Cinnamon MuffLogan Morrison: "If baseball didn't exist, I would probably be ... like a curler. Or a hairstylist."

I feel like they go into the season every year with mostly older bullpen retreads is with the express idea to flip them at the deadline and not having the most effective pen.
They have really good young options like Holloway and Pop who nonsensically started the year in the minors while guys like Louis Head and Shawn Armstrong made the team for reasons that can't be explained.Amy Adams, AKA Cinnamon MuffLogan Morrison: "If baseball didn't exist, I would probably be ... like a curler. Is it possible Sanchez slides into 4th OF territory? Not the worst thing. Him and BDLC would be a solid reserve OF pairing.Amy Adams, AKA Cinnamon MuffLogan Morrison: "If baseball didn't exist, I would probably be ... like a curler. Or a hairstylist."

i really have limited interest in watching this team until Mattingly is gone. he is by far one of the worst and most infuriating managers we've ever had down here. He is a rebuilding manager, they need to fire him and hire someone who knows how to craft lineups and make in game substitutions in the worst way. he's been here 7 fucking years. He managed Jose Fernandez, that's how long he's been here. He needs to go and they need a new voice.
On a side note, it is absolutely incredible how frequently this team has fallen into complete irrelevance before the heat (and this year the panthers) seasons are even over. Just a terribly run franchise that makes it excruciatingly hard to root for. If I had the ability to switch teams I probably would. Sherman needs to spend money or sell the fucking team already.

Apparently Hernandez is slated to make his next start for the Marlins and Meyer for Jacksonville. I truly hate this organization. No leadership. No vision. It's like they're just out here trying to do the bare minimum. It blows my mind how poor ownership after poor ownership (and poor MLB leadership after poor MLB leadership) can just blow a potentially good baseball market.

The maddening thing is they did spend money, probably about half of what they should have, but the money they did spend was on lottery tickets who have looked like shit so far. So like, what's the plan here? Do they think they're tricking the fanbase by spending some money and that'll bring people to the ballpark? Or are they just incompetent and cheap?

Fwiw I don't think the Hernandez decision is some attempt to manipulate service time. I think the organization genuinely does love him, even though every single one of his pitches have all graded out as well below average every season of his career; he has never had a halfway decent season; he has an ERA over 5, FIP of close to 6, and an OPS against >.800 for his career.
He is the type of pitcher who could skate by before advanced stats came along and told you he just simply isn't very good(although traditional stats tell the same story so it is quite baffling).
Even fangraphs wrote glowingly about him despite every metric on their website saying he was bad.
The love of Elieser Hernandez is perplexing. And it isn't like he has some electric stuff that he just needs to learn how to harness. He has a fastball that sits in the high 80s with almost zero movement that if he really dials back might hit 91 and compliments it with a mediocre slider and awful changeup.
I think a lot of it has to do with a Rule V pick coming good makes a good story. But ffs they have Pop-also a Rule V-who was effectively unhittable after a rough introduction in April last year and they send him to the Minors to make room for the likes of Head and Armstrong.
I really dont get this organization at times.Amy Adams, AKA Cinnamon MuffLogan Morrison: "If baseball didn't exist, I would probably be ... like a curler. Or a hairstylist."
