This market watches a winner, period. Don't win? People don't show up beyond the "check it out" crowd (i.e. the low "built in" figures we see now). Win and people show up in droves.

Showing commitment to building a winner so people still want to come during downtime is also important. They were strong attendance wise from 1993 to 1997. They never really did recover from the 1998 selloff.
They had a chance to build a fanbsse after 03. But while they brought a big chunk of the club back(and replaced Redman with Burnette) they still let Pudge go and dealt Lee and Encarnacion and the team largely underperformed.
Then they had a chance after 2006. Those teams were better than expected with two young phenoms in Cabs and Hanley. But they refused to really strengthen the team even when contending was possible, leading to the likes of Miguel Olivo and Reggie Abercrombie being starters.
Then the day comes, they finally have a stadium. They have a stadium and give up after one season.
Every city will support a winner more. But no team has shot themselves in the foot more when it comes to building a fanbase.Amy Adams, AKA Cinnamon MuffLogan Morrison: "If baseball didn't exist, I would probably be ... like a curler. Or a hairstylist."

I think it is nearing time to discuss sending Sanchez down. Over the last 16 games his average is under .100 and his OPS is .305. His exit velocity and hard hit % are poor. Pitchers are starting to mix in more breaking stuff at him.Amy Adams, AKA Cinnamon MuffLogan Morrison: "If baseball didn't exist, I would probably be ... like a curler. Or a hairstylist."

Once it was the 8th inning and it turned into Our Bullpen vs Their Bullpen, the final result was not surprising.
I was at the game. They were hitting the shit out if the ball against Burnes. The Marlins are not a lucky team this season.
the roof being open made it a really nice experience. I think that’s my 3rd roof open experience in 10 years

The fans in south Florida deserve so much better, but for whatever reason, MLB continues to allow this franchise to devolve into complete irrelevance. No question the franchise would have been gone if not for that stadium lease & it's wording. It must be ironclad or I'm sure they would have spent the money to get the team out of Miami.
The unfortunate thing is, the Marlins have given South Fla fans a bad reputation, and it's quite unfair....of the 4 expansion teams, despite two world series titles the Marlins are the worst in almost every other category that can be measured.
Winning seasons - Marlins 6 & at .451 winning % the lowest of all 4 expansion franchises, Tampa Bay 10, Colorado 7, Arizona 10
post-season appearances - Marlins 3, Arizona 6, Colorado 5, Tampa Bay 7
Yes, the Marlins have 2 World Series titles, but other than that, they have the least to show as a franchise history.
Bottom line, would you rather have Tampa Bay's organization and 10 winning seasons, nearly half of their all time franchise history, but no world series wins, or the Marlins 3 winning seasons in 29 played and two championships (and a very bleak future for chances for a 3rd title) or Arizona's 6 post-season seasons & 1 world series title, or Colorado's 5 post-season appearances with no world series titles ?
The Marlins needs ownership that is committed to winning and making a smaller profit. PERIOD. The owner is making decisions that put his present prospects over his future ones. Building a fanbase has been set aside for making profits in the near future.
or..... attach yourself to another, older & established franchise where there is at least a modicum of a chance they might win a world series in your remaining lifetime ?
What I would love to see happen, is loandepot.com try to buy out their contract, and Bally's try to renegotiate their contract, and all their concession contracts also be renegotiated.....if that happened Sherman may think about selling or MLB might feel the pressure to squeeze Sherman out somehow.

They are probably better players for this year, but it’s a shame we’ve blocked bleday, burdick, and Lewin later in the year for guys like soler, Garcia, and Cooper. Not seeing how they get chances this year when it seems like all 3 might be ready this year
