  • They had plenty of opportunities to tie or win this game, but were again abysmal with RISP.

As for Stallings, he hit it well today, just at people. That said, I'd rather have a catcher that can't hit and plays good defense than a catcher that can't hit and plays terrible defense like we had with Alfaro.

    • Nick Fortes has his OPS up to 1.030 now. Nice to have options at catcher.

That was his OPS in the majors last year. He's got a .700 OPS in AAA this year.

I mean yes, if the choices are between 2 terrible hitters, one of which can play good defense, obviously you go with the one who plays defense. But stallings might be a worse hitter than jeff mathis and is significantly worse (somehow) than Alfaro. They need to put an emphasis on C. Lou says the biggest hole is CF. Our biggest hole on the roster long term is clearly at C. they need to draft or figure out some sort of way to acquire a young C with hitting upside. Diego Cartaya is still a few years away but the dodgers have a longterm answer at C and he is their top prospect. That's a guy (like Keibert ruiz last year before he was traded to Washington) who with the right deal you can poach from them for some of our pitching depth. That's a guy I would trade a top SP for. Not meyer or Eury, but id deal cabrera, fulton, sixto, etc. They need to find a long term catcher who can hit, especially with the robo umps coming and making the things like pitch framing irrelevant (which is incredibly stupid its still relevant anyways, but that's a different discussion)

The a's also have 2 top catching prospects too in Langeliers and Soderstrom. Just do something out of the box to transfer some of the pitching excess into a long term catcher upgrade. Blue jays have multiple catching options as well. As do the royals, but given salvador perez's age I doubt they deal melendez.

Or luis campusano from the padres. His major league numbers have been horrendous but its 50 ab's over 3 different seasons and the padres are going for it, so I wonder if there is a way to snag him for some pitching.

          • Sorry, my error. Seems like Nick has been picking things up with the bat lately however.

            • They gave up a decent amount for Stallings. I can't imagine they do it again for another C.

              • Don't want to jinx Pablo, but 8 out of nine hitters in tonight's Arizona lineup, eight are hitting .200 and well below.

Defensive first catchers are the worst part about baseball. Yet again we have a catcher who couldn’t hit themselves out of a wet paper bag
