Whether they need to go or just move 1 to the bench, the bottom line is they both shouldn't be playing everyday. Id lean more towards keeping both because cooper is so injury prone to begin with. If in a perfect world he stays healthy, you have a good bat off the bench. it's ok to have quality options off the bench. the 1 thing that would make me lean more towards trading 1 is that I don't trust donny to stick with a consistent lineup and not shuffle bench bats in too much. I'd like to see this everyday lineup with the bench not being forced into the starting lineup too often:

C- Stallings/Fortes (henry is not as good as him)
      1b- Lewin
2b- Jazz- everyday for the love of god
      SS- Rojas
      3b- Wendle
      LF- Soler/De La Cruz
      CF- Sanchez
      RF- Garcia/Anderson
      DH- Aguilar/Cooper

That would give you 3 of garcia, Anderson, aguilar, de la Cruz, and cooper off the bench in any game, plus berti as a speedy option. I just don't trust donny to be able to manage those options competently and in a way that prioritizes getting your best young options every day ab's.

that's a shocking stat given how little soler, garcia, aguilar, rojas, and stallings have slugged. Sanchez and Jazz have been carrying the offense. It's not as bad as it has seemed because they have played teams that are really good outside of the Phillies. Giants are 8-4, Angels are in first place and are 8-5, and the Cardinals are 7-3. So its frustrating that they have blown so many games already, but they do have a light period in the schedule for the end of April and a lot of may, so as long as they can not go on a terrible streak they shouldn't be in too bad of a position, but I don't see how they fix the bullpen without a major addition. And the worst part is we all saw this coming. It was clear that they had a bullpen full of fairly solid options, but those options become lessened when you have to force them into a role that is likely 1 role too high for all of them. Bender as a closer is a bad option, but him as a middle reliever or set up guy in less pressurized situations is perfect for him. If they spent the money for a guy like Jansen it would have been a game changer for the bullpen. It's just 1 guy, but the effect on the rest of the bullpen arms would have been immense. Now they are yet again trying to piece together a good bullpen without spending money. It's just maddening.

It reminds me of the Loria era in a way. the loria regime refused to spend anything on depth to be able to sustain injuries and it led to countless ruined seasons with how injury prone stanton was. Rather than spending a few million to be able to sustain injuries, they went in with a plan that required us to be perfectly healthy to be successful. Similarly, this group refuses to spend relatively minor amounts of money to shore up the bullpen, and it has showed for each of the last 3 years.

        • speaking of the bullpen, not only have they refused to sign guys, but they keep giving away bullpen arms for nothing. Jarlin has been great for the giants for 3 years now, steckenrider is now the closer in Seattle and was great last year, and wittgren was good for Cleveland for the last 3 years.

          • Those of us that didn’t see the Marlins winning 87 games saw this coming.

Agreed. Meyer should be up and in the rotation soon, and Hernandez to the pen should be the easy decision. Wendle should be starting essentially every game. If you want to get Rojas in against lefties, fine. I also think De La Cruz should be starting until he starts struggling, or the other guys pick up their play.

Yeah, I never understood letting Wittgren go for nothing when he was performing well.

                    • Imagine this: bases loaded, one out, and Stallings at the plate with a 3-0 count. Green light to swing at the 3-0? Yep. Stallings grounds into a double play and the inning is over. That, friends, is a very poor baseball decision by the Marlins.

                          • Sanchez and jazz are carrying this team. There is no excuse for not playing them vs lefties. Pablo making me eat my words in the offseason thankfully. I just pray he makes it through the full year. If he does he joins sandy as one of the best pitchers in all of baseball

Pablo was clearly working on things in spring training. Cause since the season started he's been lights out.

I like Wendle at short every day and let Rojas be the day off guy around the diamond. Even Rojas is a better defensive 1b than Cooper. Cooper cant pick for shit.
