Some sort of change of voice. Mattingly has been here for what, 7 years now?

      his lineups are truly nonsensical
I will be surprised if he's let go at this point. For some reason they're determined to stick with him even though it's been painfully obvious he should've been shown the door early last season, and certainly not had his option picked up.

If you hate the team so much shouldn’t you just fuck off from this forum and never look back?

They lost three 1-run games on the road while getting bent over by the umpiring crews.

Setting aside how terrible he is as a broadcaster, I’m shocked they gave him the role given how terrible of a person his wife is publicly.

and then we can get into how terrible he is as a broadcaster. Just completely useless

                I'll be there because of 2. Also a small/medium yikes for 3.

3 one run losses in 5 games. All could have been avoided if we acquired

                1) a star center fielder
                2) a "luxury" closer
                3) both

max meyer just had a cramp last night in his calf due to dehydration so he will be fine. Him and Watson are showing why I say they should be untouchable along with Eury. He needs to be up here the second we get the extra year of service time. Sandy, Pablo, Rogers, Luzardo, and Meyer is one of the best rotations in baseball and once the hitting reverts to the mean and we don't get screwed nightly by shitty umpiring they will be fine. The lineups need to change immediately though. Soler needs to be in the middle of the lineup, not leadoff. Joey Wendle should be hitting leadoff and playing 3b everyday with Anderson becoming that super utility guy that we envisioned for Wendle.

Wendle, Jazz, Soler, Sanchez, Cooper, Aguilar, Garcia, Rojas, Stallings.

It's maddening they didn't spend in free agency to get a guy like Correa who could have put this lineup firmly in a position where the pitching can carry us to contention. The bats will pick up and not be .400 OPS and lower all year obviously, but the correa deal was just such an easy and obvious move that they just refused to spend to do. This team will never be able to compete on a yearly basis without going all in on a proven star bat in free agency. don't need to trade the cost controlled prospects to do so unless you're getting a superstar like Buxton who I maintain they needed to have gone all in on, but just go fucking spend money or sell the team.

They didn't spend enough clearly, but also the money they did spend was on guys who have been highly volatile over the course of their careers, and played positions where we had young talent (Sanchez, Bleday, Burdick) We're not spending money and the money we do spend is on guys we hope and pray we get on one of their good years and not filling the holes that we have. It's just maddening.

Agreed. We all said it at the time for Garcia. Such a dumb contract. I’m fine with not trading the farm as I’ve said, but the refusal to spend on impact guys who end up getting shorter term deals like Correa is maddening. It’s 5 games and there will be clear positive regression to the mean given that 2/3 of our lineup has been terrible the first 5 games, but it’s just so avoidable and you can still have young affordable prospects to bolster the team if they just spent money in free agency on any number of guys who were just available this offseason. Same thing with the bullpen. As individuals we have a bunch of solid relievers, but as I said in the offseason, when you don’t have that one lockdown proven closer, you’re forced to elevate every single guy in the pen one role up where they are clearly not good enough or uncomfortable in that role. Bender for example has always looked super uncomfortable Closing and looks great in other roles. If they weren’t going to spend on a bat, at least spend on any number of proven good relief options that are available every single offseason. They haven’t for several years in a row and it costs them games consistently.

I’ll give bender a break though as he has been completely screwed several times in just the first 5 games this year. The umpiring in crucial spots is horrendous and so easily fixable by baseball

Obviously very small sample size, but look at the numbers of this undrafted catcher we signed in 2021, who is now in AA for us. Did well at Jupiter last year as well, again in a very small sample size. Paul McIntosh:

Do we have to go 1-10 before Mattingly gets Soler, Cooper, Garcia and Aguilar out of the top of our order?

Will Watson play in the majors before his 20th birthday? I'd say so.

If the noise about ownership getting restless, and wanting to compete now is true, and especially the part Mish keeps saying about not being ok with a slow start again, I could see them pulling the trigger. This team wasn't built to compete regardless of whether they deluded themselves into thinking they were, but there has to be a scapegoat, and Mattingly hasn't done himself any favors. They won't fire Ng because she's still so new, and the optics of firing the first female GM in professional sports (especially that quickly) would be bad. So I could totally see them dumping Mattingly if they continue to lose. Hopefully if they do that, they'll hire a forward thinking manager that isn't stuck on the BS dinosaur way of thinking that Mattingly is.
