If you’re “same old Marlins” is about Bass, I agree with you 1000%.

But beyond that, they scored 5 runs on the road against a good Giants team (who won like 250 games last year).

There were a lot of bright spots today.

Jazz Chisholm is the face of the Miami franchise. You bat him nowhere but first because that's the guy fans will pay to watch. (Not to mention the fact that he's the team's best player.)

Pinch hitting Anderson with the game on the line was troublesome to me. He was cold off the bench and Wendle was putting forth quality at bats. BA got three straight changeups, all 88 mph and all well outside the strike zone. Swung and missed at all three.

You can't bat a guy with a .303 OBP leadoff. While maybe not 9th, the bottom half of the lineup is where Chisholm should be.

Yeah relax, even though every post Maddawg has ever made has been extremely negative this one was different.

Mattingly should get fired for starting Berti over Jazz today

Looks like Pablo was definitely holding something back in Spring Training. His stuff looks great.

Nice to see Pablo bounce back after a rough spring. Would have been nice to see him go deeper, but he wasn't done any favors by Donnie. Speaking of Donnie, he's already up to his bullshit. The OF shifts have hurt them in both games so far, and don't make a whole lot of sense if you look at the spray charts, the fact that Soler is slow, and the fact that they're not pitching these guys to go where they are aligned. Also, sitting Jazz is flat out stupid. After hitting him 9th yesterday you have to wonder if Mattingly just isn't a fan of the big personality. Mattingly as a whole seems to get the most out of his guys, but it would be nice to have a manager who is up with the times managing a young team, and his in-game managing is really bad.

Also, it's early, but the two big bat moves have looked about as bad as possible, and Bender looks dicey as the closer. It's funny how those were the two clear biggest needs on this team, and they went with the bare minimum, essentially. Hopefully one or both get going as the pitching gets easier, and Bender turns a corner after recovering today. But the worries that we all had going into the season haven't been alleviated at all after a couple of games (and yes, I do realize two games is essentially nothing, but it's frustrating to see them flailing out there).

pablo looked very encouraging yesterday after a really bad spring with lower velocity. should be 2-0 but with rogers on the mound today we have a really good chance at a series win.

As far as jazz, I get trying to give everyone a start to begin the year but jazz is not the guy to do that for. I get the lefty on the mound but let jazz play every day. There are plenty of other guys to give rests to. Also, I liked the idea of jazz in the 9 spot but given his potential game changing bat, he's too good for that role. put rojas in the 9 spot for quality ab's and put jazz in the middle of the order. Give your best guys the most ab's.

that's been my complaint with Mattingly for years. He is the ideal bench coach or manager for a rebuilding team where results arent necessarily prioritized as opposed to developing players for the future, but he is just such a bad in game manager. You cant demote a manager to bench coach but that is just such an ideal role for him given what he brings. if we get off to a really bad start he will be gone I think.

Per Craig Mish, Jazz retweeted some messages he received asking why he wasn't in yesterday's lineup. Some controversy.

I'd side with Jazz. I would expect that he'd be upset about first hitting ninth and then removed from yesterday's game. Yeah, he thinks he's good. Yeah, he basically "won" the opener on Friday. And yeah, he ought to be on the field if he's healthy.

kahlil watson is not going to be in jupiter very long. he's gonna be an absolute stud for us in a few years. The bat speed is ridiculous
