    Something Like:

    Padres get:

    Pablo
    Cooper
    McCambley

    Marlins get:

    Luis Campusano
    Robert Hassell III
    Wil Myers
    Drew Pomeranz

So, Myers and Pomeranz are owed $41 million over the next two seasons. (Myers 1 year/$20 million + $1 million buyout, Pomeranz 2 years / $10 million each) Maybe you get the Padres to eat about $12 million to make it more palatable. (So maybe $20 million extra payroll in 2022, and $9 million extra in 2023) But this way, you fill 3 of the 5 spots I talked about in one shot. Pomeranz has had injury issues this year, but healthy he fills that lefty-reliever spot perfectly. You get one year of Myers to lock down that corner OF spot I talked about, and maybe you sign somebody like Leury Garcia to a one-year deal to split time with De La Cruz and Myers and also gives you more versatility off the bench. After 1 year, Myers and Garcia come off the books, and some combination of Bleday, Burdick, Conine, Hassell and Misner should be ready to rock in the OF. Then all you have to do is go out and get a closer IMO, and we have an interesting team next year, and really interesting going forward.
I think it's going to be extremely difficult to trade for an elite catcher prospect who is practically MLB ready, but I do agree Pablo and eating dead salary is where you'd start.

I don't think you invest heavily in corner OF with Bleday, Burdick, maybe Misner, pushing for time by July. You do though get a major CF for years, whether S. Marte or prospect.

      Sanchez
      New CF
      Cooper* (Bleday/Burdick)
      De La Cruz**/Whatever reserves

*He can be moved and a comparable 1 year OF brought in, such as your Wil Myers salary dump, or, they do the same thing with someone like David Peralta to get Ketel/Kelly. I guess this could be Duvall, but I think you want a player you can push aside quickly and Duvall is better than that for sure. Myers you can "sort of" play all over so he becomes a poor man's Chris Taylor in a scenario Bleday takes off, and who cares about Peralta if you need to push him aside it's a salary dump and he can play against righties here and there, etc.

**BABIP is still insane .398, but even scaling that down he may be hitting a true .250 and that may be pretty solid for a backup. I think he's earned this pencil'd in to next year, absent a disastrous spring training

Which is STILL 1.7 WAR better than Brinson, Harrison, and Diaz.

including this year through the end of 2028 when he will be 36 he is due another 196 million. those 3 will be out of the organization next year. they robbed us but I think yelich's history of back problems going back to his time with us is going to make that a very ugly contract for the brewers.

                    • Interesting article on Marlin's farm and a Sandy mention at bottom. Just one's scout opinion - https://www.miamiherald.com/sports/s...mainstage_card

                      TLDR version

Lewin - He's going to hit and excellent defender
Sanchez - High ceiling, everyday player
Jazz - Also an every day player

Bats - There are no longterm starters in the farm system anywhere
Bleday - Not very good, problems with swing, defensively corner player. Don't expect much moving forward (sigh)
Burdick - Better than Bleday, can maybe play CF and definitely corners, is going to whiff too much to be a longterm starter
                      VVM - Awful
Conine - Never gonna hit as whiffs too much
Devers - Is a bat boy

                      E. Cabrera - He's going to be a starter
Eder - Steal of draft, # 3 SP ceiling
Nicolas - Is awesome, top half of rotation arm, Kevin Millwood type, full package <----- Woah
Meyer - He is good, but likely a reliever with frame and a TJ risk with high slider usage if remains a starter (sigh)
                      McCambley - He's OK

So that is really really sad with the bats, but if Anderson, Jazz, Sanchez, and Lewin are four, you trade for 2 more and sign 2 more, it still works. All roads are leading to two of Pablo, Sixto, Cabrera, Hernandez, Meyer, Eury, and I guess we can throw in Nicolas, being moved for 2 longterm bats.

Also, we can applaud them at developing some real pitching depth and really doing excellent in a few trades (Ozuna, Gallen), but WTF if you whiff on Bleday and Meyer? That is going to sting.

Article also says Marlins and Sandy both have growing optimism to a new deal. Which is fucking DUH give him the Aaron Nola deal (approx 5/$50) and call it a wrap.

                      • I disagree with them about Burdick. The K-rate is too high, but he doesn’t need to bring it down an astronomical amount like Harrison/Conine. The combination of walks and hard contact is going to play as a starter IMO. Surprised nothing to say about Kameron Misner. Quietly had a very good season.

                        • Also, the Meyer criticism is the same one he had when he was drafted. Nothing he did this year gave credence to that concern.

                          • Why is Sierra still on this team? Jesus Christ he’s awful.

You really have to hope they get one OF starter out of Bleday, Burdick, Misner, Scott, and Jerar (.....and Brinson, Harrison, Sierra, De La Cruz, VVM, Conine, etc.) That is A LOT of resources spent on figuring out your OF and "Nick Anderson" has turned into your only viable one.

They can probably wait a year and give everyone 2022 to develop more, but they'll have to go out and get someone for 2023 if all of this doesn't turn into at least a corner OF. (I'm working under the assumption Sanchez works out, they get a longterm CF this offseason, and Cooper/De La Cruz/rotating guys are worth the other spot until the trade deadline).

To mention, Misner has had a stupid BABIP since moving up levels. I wouldn't go as far as a good season, but he and Scott have definitely been better. I'm cautiously optimistic on them having their tools take over as they get older and a year past the lost pandemic season. We'll see.

Nothing changes here for me. They need three bats for next year, or four if they trade/DFA one of Cooper/Aguilar.
