  • on a different note, bryan de la cruz has shown a lot since he's come over. that bat is much better than i anticipated. if he becomes our 4th or 5th OF next year id be very comfortable with that. I'd take Sanchez, hopefully Marte, and then corner OF acquired via trade with Brinson and De La Cruz as your 4th and 5th OF's next year. that's a really healthy group with upside.

Has looked good in CF too.

      • also tough to evaluate cause he missed a fucking entire month with covid but Sanchez has shown me enough to believe he can be counted on to start next year in LF or RF. I like what he brings as a potential #2 or #5 hitter in the lineup. Doesnt have overwhelming power but I like his approach and his gap to gap power and I think the power will increase with time. plus he does that thing like juan soto does after each pitch and that will automatically increase my perception of a guy at least 25%

        • Max Meyer was a starter in just 15 of 46 collegiate appearances. For Eder it was 13 starts in 34. Eder was best in his sophomore year, pitching solely in relief. They have been viewed as relievers in the past and may be best suited for that role in the future.

          • Nobody's saying give up on Sixto, just that he can't be counted on/penciled in for anything, IMO.

            • Meanwhile Brinson is back to Brinsuck and under .240. De La Cruz and Sanchez are solid. Going to need to find a power OF bat in the offseason. Unless we think someone in the minors is gonna hit 20-30 homers. I miss Marte.

Pitching in college is different. You usually spend your first two years going back and forth from starting and relieving with much of your time coming in the pen. Even the best Arms do this and few start out in their teams rotation as freshman(e.g. Gerrit Cole is kind of an anomoly). They then ran into a pandemic shortened season in their junior years.

De La Cruz has a .455 BABIP entering today. It's going to get ugly very fast. I think they just need a major CF acquisition. This is signing Marte back, or trading Pablo for a super stud.

Going into next year with Sanchez-New CF-Cooper with likely Brinson/De La Cruz as 4th OF (Berti 5th OF) is good enough opening day, and they can get to June and see if Bleday/Burdick/Encarnacion/Conine has emerged, or if they need to trade for someone else as everyone sucks.

This keeps coming back to me - why the hell are they keeping Aguilar? Why don't you project Cooper and Lewin as your 1B (with Cooper playing ever day in RF if Lewin is good and other OF suck), and then you can carry another outfielder as you need that positionally much more? I still don't get not trading him. They need more OF bodies to figure out who sticks and he prevents that.

                    • de la cruz will absolutely regress but i like what he brings to the table as a backup OF. getting him for Yimi was good value. Him and brinson as a 4th and 5th OF who have versatility to play all 3 OF spots is good depth. Then give me Jesus Sanchez starting in LF, Marte signed back for CF, and then trade for a controlled corner OF bat they like who has a really high ceiling and then trade more of the pitching depth for a catcher of the future.

                      • De la Cruz reminds me of Harold Ramirez, but better defensively.

They keep Aguilar cause of the locker room or what ever they say. But yes Coop and Lewin should be platooning. But next yr the DH is back so Lewin is up regardless.

                              • Toughest part of watching Marlins lately is seeing my two "cornerstone" players, Jazz and J Sanchez, look so friggin' bad night in and night out.
