i don't think i agree with these positions. i kind of feel like you do have to sign him, and if that means you have to overpay, then so be it. if you want people to take you seriously and believe that you're not full of shit when you talk about building the organization, you need to make a statement and actually prove it to people at some point.

Unless Marte is being unreasonable, you have to re-sign him. He wants to be here, which in itself is a big deal, and is just such a good player all around. If you're serious about contending anytime soon, you can't let that guy walk out the door.

id be super interested to see what the vibe around this team if rich and tommy were still here throughout the rebuild. they just made it feel like they were professional but great at pulling for the marlins. even 3 years later Hollandsworth and severino still feel like a national broadcast.

what do you think he gets in an extension? After the last few years and the unevenness of the free agent market I don't have a feel for it. 3-4 years 60-80 million is what I think I could see him getting on the open market but maybe the labor deal questions for next year and the revenue losses of the pandemic years. Plus teams were already realizing before the pandemic that free agency is rarely worth the price.
