  • So what is Lewin Diaz going to be in the outfield? What’s the plan here?

    • So instead of pinch hitting for Lopez and trusting the bullpen we now only have Alfaro on the bench. Brilliant.

      • i am so fucking sick of seeing sierra on this team. its been 4 fucking years, the guy is awful, has no chance of becoming competent, and is continuously not only wasting a roster spot but is consistently being put in situations where we need a big hit. enough already. he does literally nothing well on a major league baseball field except have speed he doesn't know how to use.

        • You know it’s going to be a 1 run game in the 9th and we’re going to have to use a pitcher to hit, because of that Mattingly brilliance.

I was going to point out how dumb it was to have a leadoff hitter that couldn't be trusted in that bases loaded spot. But this is dumber. We are 100% going to have to use Trevor Rodgers as a pinch hitter with 2 out in the 9th.

              • corey dickerson can get the fuck off this team as well. Guy brings absolutely nothing to the table aside from weak base hits.

                  That’s our #3 hitter baby.

this is getting ahead of ourselves and it will obviously help once starling and jazz are in the lineup, but we're gonna need to make a trade at the deadline for a legit middle of the order OF or 3b bat. If kris bryant comes available if the cubs fall out of it as a free agent at the end of the year I think very hard about seeing if they can snag him at a relative discount for the rest of the year because he will walk after the year. A lot of that depends on sixto coming back healthy but if he is and the rest of the bats stay healthy or if BA has a set back, I would really make a run at a rental for the rest of the year.

This is why I thought it was important to give Jesus Sanchez a look. Exhaust all our options before we go down that road because I agree, the middle of the lineup is just not good enough.

                      • i dont get what jon berti has done to seemingly have a guaranteed roster spot. the guy is a career minor leaguer. the most he has going for him is speed and versatility but he plays far too often. he should be a spot pinch hitter off the bench or a defensive replacement late in games with his versatility. the guy gets way too many ab's for a guy who cant hit.

he's been useless this year, but he was useful last year and the year before. plus, if we're giving roster spots to guys like sierra, diaz and devers, he's probably not the first guy you get rid of.

absolutely not but it just speaks to the need to continue to improve the depth on the bottom of the roster, which is not uncommon on a rebuilding type team. they need to balance giving young guys opportunities with also having competent bats off the bench. The sierra's, harrisons, devers, etc who are either awful or not ready to be at the major league level cant be making up the majority of your bench as often as they have this year.
