April 2021 game thread

Sanchez pulled from today’s game. I haven’t watched the last couple innings so not sure if it’s an injury or what.

aside from 1 start where pablo got 8 runs of run support, the marlins have a combined 1 run in his other 7 outings combined.

rogers was lined up to start but they gave him an extra day. We are missing competent fill ins badly. This is the exact reason I advocated for signing a stop gap vet starter in the offseason. I totally understand keeping it cautious with the young arms like Rogers and sixto but knowing we were going to do that and coming off a 60 game year, it was malpractice not to sign a vet who can eat innings and at least keep you in games. Plus if we run into injuries, like we have, it keeps us afloat and doesn't risk us losing the entire year based off shitty replacements like we used to do in the Loria days due to them cheaping out on depth.

Looks like Jazz and Alfaro back this weekend which will help a lot, if only because wallach will be off the team finally come this weekend. Im not sure what happened to him since last year. He could never hit his way out of a wet paper bag but he used to be at least quality defensively. This year, I'm not sure if its in his head at this point, but the defense has been so shaky to the point where he cant even catch the ball.

Leon isn't great but he is a big improvement on wallach as a backup.

And I'm pretty damn close to letting cooper either become the full time backup 1b and just a bat off the bench or sending him down to AAA entirely to find his groove for a week or 2. He has been lost and I was completely wrong at the damage he can do as an OF, he just doesn't belong out there and aguilar has been to good to reduce his playing time. I'd call up Jesus Sanchez if the struggles continue through the dodgers series and let Jesus see if he can keep swinging the bat well at the major league level and let Cooper figure it out down below.

LF- Dickerson/Duvall platoon
CF- Marte hopefully not too much longer and Brinson until then
RF- Sanchez until he either cools down or Duvall starts picking it up.

We have guys that can swing games but not having the consistency of marte in the 2 spot has killed us on a game to game basis and Jazz's ability to impact the games in multiple ways and just the energy he brings on a nightly basis has been sorely missed.

Hopefully by next month we can get Elieser back in the fold, Sixto makes his season debut and the fact that he has missed the first few months can hopefully let us not have to limit him as the season goes on and we inevitably have to limit Roger's innings down the stretch.
