  • We were due some luck! YAS!

    • that was a huge win. Being able to win a game after pushing rogers back a day and going with poteet while avoiding gallen worked out perfectly. And always helps to get some luck, that last double play to end the game had triple written all over it.

Our bullpen is legitimately good. If we can get our 5 starters back and reduce the amount of times we need them for 7 innings in a game a few times a week they will be even more effective. Yimi has been lights out, as has Floro, Bass doesn't feel reliable yet but he has been steady since the shitty start, Curtiss has been great, Cimber i don't love but his numbers are great, Bleier has been unreal as of late, detwiler has pitched above expectations, and pop cant be trusted yet but he has still improved his numbers to the point of respectability.

If they can just keep clawing out victories and stay in the hunt until marte and jazz and sixto get back we will be in a really good position for a potential steal of the division (unlikely) or to sneak in as a wild card (I definitely think that's possible). then next year is the year for legitimate title contention.

      • tonights game is big. Clawing back to split this series with the dodgers 3 best pitchers going against us this weekend would be huge.

Alcantara vs kershaw friday is going to be electric. Unfortunately we just so happened to fall in line with Kershaw, Buehler, and Bauer for the 3 dodgers games but we have sandy and lopez in the first and last game so hopefully we can get at least 1, 2 would be unbelievable.

        • I’m not in full panic mode about the Dodgers series. I’ve learned that this team generally plays up (and down) to their competition. Worst case scenario is we lose 2 games to the Dodgers.

im not in full panic mode at all either. just recognizing the reality that if we can just get a game in that series we should walk away thrilled given the injuries and their starters lined up.

I like Yimi, but his Statcast numbers this year are awful. He’s getting hit really hard even though it doesn’t really feel that way watching all the games so idk. Last night he did get a bit lucky though with the line drive right at Aguilar. Floro’s peripherals look impressive.

Also, remember we have Bender who looks really good. And Holloway looks just fine out of the bullpen.

i just saw now that yimi's peripherals haven't been great and that's pretty surprising just going off the eye test. I think he is one of those guys who might be able to out perform his peripherals consistently because he throws strikes and rarely walks guys so when balls are hit hard he isn't giving up anything easy by giving a lot of guys free passes.

All in all, while they maybe should have got that 1 dominant reliever (mark melancon would have been my pick and he is crushing it this year for the padres), they did a really good job building a cohesive all around bullpen of quality pitchers. We might not trust all of them entirely yet but it is a deep group of arms and no real weak link now that Campbell is gone. Pop you could say is the weak link technically but as a rule 5 guy who has shown promise he is good enough for me if they avoid high leverage situations with him and just try to get him by on the roster the whole year.

                • they put jazz to the test today. he's ready and should be back tomorrow id guess. 3 attempted steals, although just 1 successful, indicates to me they were giving him a final test making sure he's good to go. can't wait to get him back.

                  • Imagine having a third base coach and not even looking at him. Sierra is such a dunce on the base paths...

if I watch the game with sound on at all its usually still faint and in the background. It's not like they are bad broadcasters, I just get the feel of a more national broadcast game as opposed to a marlins game. This ownership group has overhauled the organization in every way possible and the vast majority have been great, but getting rid of Rich Waltz was one of the worst decisions to date.

                        • Trevor rogers just has the it factor you need from a top of the rotation guy. just a confidence in his overpowering stuff that sets him apart from a normal rookie having a good stretch. nothing about this performance thus far is unsustainable long term and it's crazy that in an organization with sixto, Meyer, sandy, and Pablo, he might be the best of them all. Im not sure we will get fully healthy and let them loose this year due to last years pandemic shortened season, but next year if some of the young bats can prove themselves at the big league level we are a legitimate contender 100%.

Yeah, can we Dimelo to get him back?

                            • jesus sanchez back tonight after missing a few games for jacksonville. Jazz still down there for some reason which is weird cause if they had him attempt 3 steals last night you'd think they felt comfortable that he's good to go. Alfaro had a setback and hurt his side. Marte starting a hitting progression as well, whatever the hell that means.
