  • I'm still in awe of that Acuna homer. That was 96 on the black. He hits it opposite field upper deck. Unreal.

    • that was such a depressing loss. that was a game they needed to win with everything that happened. Sandy really good through 6, Freid doesnt even make it to the 5th, 4 runs before the 5th inning, and a lead into the 7th. That's gonna be hard to overcome and now unless we can win each of the next 2 games we will have trevor rogers pitching a potential elimination game against one of if not the best lineup in the game.

Agreed. You knew 1 wouldn't be enough, but you could hope. Hindsight is 2020, but with what we know now, Sandy shouldn't have gone back out there.

        • wow sandy is giving absolutely 0 fucks. Just challenged Acuna to a fight essentially through the post game media. Said if Acunas ready to fight than he is too.

i just wish there was a better plan. Also i feel like the braves not only crush us to death with homers but they also get so many fucking seeing eye singles or broken bat bloop bullshit against us. I cant wait for another year when we have another impact bat or 3 to really compete. Our lineup is decent now but it is clearly a significant amount of stop gap veterans.

            • if we do step back and look at the positive right now- Sandy alcantara might be our 3rd or 4th best starter within the next 2 years. Sixto, Cabrera, and Meyer all might have a higher ceiling. We're in a great place, it just sucks to go through the growing pains but it will make it sweeter when we do win it all in the future.

              • I find myself not that upset about losing this game. We really are playing with house money at this point, making it to this point is already a tremendous boon for this organization and it's future. The Braves lineup is in a different stratosphere from ours. Maybe our young arms can pull off some magic, but either way I am and will be over the moon about the way this season played out.

Edit: except for the whole Covid thing and the Minor Leagues getting cancelled of course.

What other rebuilding teams growing pains took place in the Playoffs?

cubs did but i would argue we had two years of growing pains the last two years. astros did too. it happens. teams generally dont come from nowhere in their rebuild and win the title

I would say Astros when they went 86-76 and made it in 2015 is probably the closest comparison. Even then though in 2014 they were much improved and weren't the "bottom feeders" (I said the words) they were before that.

The first year this current Cubs squad made the postseason they won 97 games in 2015. I'm sorry but a 97-win team is not rebuilding IMO, that's a team that's arrived. It's built.

Even the most exuberant Marlins re-build prognosticator (fish16) would have to admit that this is at least a year ahead of schedule.

I just saw his comments. Haha. I officially love this guy. I don't agree that he challenged him to a fight, just that if Acuna wants to fight they'll fight. He's just trying to pitch inside, he's standing on top of the plate and got hit. It's exactly what he should've said. On the TBS coverage, I guess it's not all surprising considering who it's coming from, but Pedro had a nice long diatribe on why Sandy was in the right and Acuna needs to calm down.

                        • I haven't read the comments here...but it's a weird situation where both sides are right.

Alcantara definitely wasn't trying to hit Acuna there and we paid for it because that run led to the Braves rally that eventually won the game. From Acuna's side, the Marlins are practically targeting him every time he hits a home run against him. It's pretty bullsh*t.

Honestly I love all the drama around it and it's great to see a real national storyline revolving around a Marlins game...probably haven't had that happen in YEARS.

Anyway the Marlins clearly gotta let this BS go because the Braves are far more talented and able to overcome mistakes than the Marlins squad. This could be a clean sweep if the team doesn't get their shit together and figure out how to stop some of the Braves red hot hitters, Acuna included (and the solution isn't to just hit him every chance they get).

I have noticed that - they seem to be just getting incredibly lucky with all their bloop hits and dribbler singles that wind up going to the wall and go through and allow a runner or two to score.

The Marlins targeting him or Urena targeting him? Alcantara cant stop pitching inside to Acuna because Urena is a bozo.

                              • Positives from today:

Our #1 out pitched their #1. Our offense went downhill when Fried left the game.

The Braves luck boxed their way to 3 or 4 hits. We can’t beat them when they’re lucky we just need some luck to go our way

Anderson got back on track today

If we can win tomorrow, I feel confident that we’ll win Game 3
