Doesn't mean that much to me. He looked dominant in the 7th inning.

He got unlucky in the 8th, it happens.

    • I am not killing Edwin. Berkman put a good swing on a high fastball.

It's just a "well, fuck" moment.

      • JJ got unlucky with a few cheap hits and then Holliday and Berkman died what they've been doing all season thus far. Can't really fault anyone.

            I agree.

I'd rather not push him hard the first week of May.

Yeah, it'd have sucked if the 'pen blew it, but at least it's the "smart" move.

I don't recall where I read it, but starting pitchers who start an inning at or over 100 pitches have some out of this world silly ERA.

              • Is Morrison coming back tomorrow? Because I don't want to see Wes Helms starting at 3B...

But I'm not gonna kill Edwin for it, because I can absolutely see why you'd want him in.

Yes, but you drew a parallel between today's game and yesterday's right?
I get JJ is a far superior pitcher than Vazquez but the same type of inning transpired for Vazquez yesterday giving up the same type of "bullshit" hits and people killed him for it but today it's a different story. I understand you have JJ on the mound but he really wasn't pitching all that well specifically against the people he faced that inning besides Theriot.

What makes bringing in the pen any smarter than leaving one of the best pitchers in the game in?

                      • Because that best pitcher wasn't being his best.

                            I did.
SP's struggle after having thrown 100 pitches to start an inning.

It's worth noting that you said you just randomly read it without providing a link (although I'm sure it's true).
It's also worth noting that not every pitcher who enters an inning having thrown 100 pitches is as good as Josh Johnson.

                              • He hit 97 the inning prior, right? he threw some really nice pitches, right? He wanted to go back out, right?

It's 50-50. Anyone trying to make it look like a slam dunk either way is trying too hard.
