seriously though how does lavarnway only get to 3b with 2 outs on a fly ball that stayed up there a while and was bobbled. that's an inexcusable error that could cost the game. we don't deserve to win today really between Dickerson losing a ball, not capitalizing early in the game when we were threatening, aguilar had a slow reaction to another ball. just not a clean game that we need to win with all these guys out.

Stock way up for Eddy today. Bought himself the everyday job at 2B for at least a week.
Lavarnway had to score.
Sierra should have pinch hit for Harrison ... or Logan Forsythe. Feels like a failure to commit to winning when you let Monte go up there.

Lavarnway should be the first post game interview. He should be asked how he didn’t score on that. There were 2 outs and McNeil bobbled the ball more than once.

Lets get a baserunner here in the 9th & get Aguilar/BA up there to see what happens.

awful game all around. blown opportunities, poor and costly defense, way to many k's, and a truly terrible strike zone. 2 very tough games coming up with Toronto lucking out and having ryu and person starting. gotta hope for 1/2.

they could use the day off tomorrow. sucks to lose the last 2 like that but a 5-2 week without 18 players and 7 games in 6 days is a great week. just gotta hope we hold our own for the next week and then we start to get everyone back ASAP before we blow this good start.

A bad week?
Isan opts out, brinson goes 0-8, monte 2-16 with 9 k's, and Yamamoto wasn't good in a spot we needed him to give us something. a bad few years but a truly awful week. The 18 guys going down was obviously the big story but isan opting out might be the more long term issue for the rest of the year because I'm still high on him and I think he really added something that no one else in the lineup offers with his skillset and he looked good in that Philly series.

wow awesome brawl that just broke out in Oakland with the astros. very little social distancing. astros to me have gotten a lot of deserving shit but some of the outrage is a little much. its as if they're the only team that cheated when I can guarantee you every team tries some sort of sign stealing, admittedly not to that extent, but even the red sox also got busted and you don't hear anything about them. Theyre getting pummeled because manfred's punishment wasn't adequate

15% of the season gone. Observations:
Aguilar has been great (surprisingly so to me). The plate discipline wasn't expected. He's a Marlin next season (with arbitration salary).
Lavarnway came into question with the ninth inning base running blunder last night. In an empty stadium, shouldn't he have heard his first base coach? Still, he's made contact in every at bat and his swing looks good.
Villar hasn't contributed to the win total in any significant way. I'd hit him low in the order for the time being.
Let's admit that Sierra has looked better this spring/season. In just a handful of at bats he has been a difference maker and has not whiffed a single time.
Which brings us to Monte. His throw to home on the shallow sac fly to center was fifty feet up the third base line! One of the worse tosses I've ever seen. We know he's going to whiff before he sees the first pitch. It was awful to watch hours of baseball yesterday just to see the game end like that .... with the tying runs in scoring position. He seems borderline helpless to me ... no, beyond the borderline. Mattingly claimed afterward that he never considered batting for Harrison vs. Diaz, a pitcher who throws harder than Monte can catch up to. Sierra would have been another left-handed hitter vs. Degrom and the mostly righty Mets pen.
Elieser tomorrow night is fine. He looked solid in his first start. Yamamoto on Wednesday? I'd let him warm up and prove that his curve won't hang, but otherwise forget it. He had absolutely nothing going for him in his Baltimore start. Mejia will be on a full four days rest, so is a Wednesday option. With the home opener on Friday, Pablo will have had his full four days too.Last edited by Lee Stone; 08-10-2020, 08:51 AM.
