What a low bar we've set for Monte. He cues a dribbler through the right side of the infield and we're ready to hand him CF. Note: he played a warning track can of corn into a double last night with misjudgement. I remain extremely cautious in his regard.

Bunting needs work. We've tried a few and nobody has been able to get one down.

Need huge effort from Pablo this afternoon
You can’t see Castano moving forward? I thought you liked him before the game? What happened, you realized that minor league numbers don’t always translate to the big league level?

As to pitchers on the IL, I'd be good with Neidert, Yimi, and Vesia returning. Ramirez, Cooper and Rojas back as regulars.
You went from “could be a late-blooming lefty” before the game to now he basically has no chance. You’re the best.

      • Why are you giving up on Castano after 1 start? He's pretty much what I expected (5th starter/spot starter type), but I wouldn't judge his entire future off of his MLB debut.

        • It's what he does. Caleb Smith was at one time his #1 prospect in the organization, now he thinks he has no future in the league. Monte Harrison was his guy when we first picked him up.

What can I say? Hitters were comfortable vs Castano and that doesn't bode well. I thought he would look better. Caleb Smith doesn't throw like he used to. Should I pretend he does? Monte never got a grasp for hitting. Even Mejia disappointed me because I understood he was developing a change ... right now he looks like a reliever with his stuff. You never know.

I don't mind getting bashed. When the Mets added JD Davis for next to nothing last year, I had the gall to say he would have been the Marlins best hitter. Bashed. I liked Austin Nola as a catcher/utility guy when we cut him from NO. Bashed. I liked Tyler Heineman this year. Bashed. I still love Eddy Alvarez. He just needs to relax. Remember, he hit better than anyone at New Orleans last season and his glove is terrific.

At what point do you rethink how you evaluate prospects? It's not when you actually see the guys you rave about play and are less than impressed, and the people that bashed you for your hyperbolic praise of that player are now defending that player to you. That doesn't give you pause?

I also like the thought that Eddy Alvarez needs to relax. Not like he's ever performed on a large stage before, this moment is too big for him.

You give these great scouting reports about players you’ve never watched, and then start bashing them when they show the same skill set in the big leagues. Castano being exhibit...I lost count.

This Harrison AB is ending with a BB or a K.

And the issues they always run into are blatantly obvious and what we tell him will happen if they are brought up. Minor league stats are deceiving and age should absolutely factor into any analysis of numbers

that's been his story for his first few years. he cruises for innings at a time then gives up huge innings. he has had so many starts that have seemed to be him cruising for 3 or 4 innings and then the other team exploding for 5 or 6 runs at once. he's still a young guy so he'll continue to adapt to struggles. it is absolutely in the realm of possibility to me that something just clicks for him one day/month/year and he fixes those issues and becomes a really good #2 who eats up innings and pitches super efficiently to get deep into games.
