Cervelli/Andujar. I didn't like either of these signings, but both look very confident at the plate. Great contact/discipline.
Key to victory for Marlins? ONE walk allowed. When is the last time Marlin pitchers walked a single batter over nine innings?
No way teams should get away with a defensive shift on Anderson. He's too good a hitter not to go to right field.
Monte. Wow. That was beyond brutal. Too many problems to list, but he could start by standing a foot closer to the plate. I looked for the record for consecutive strikeouts to start a Major League career, but couldn't find it. Hopefully, Monte won't set it. Berti is destined to play CF I guess.
Look for Yamamoto to shine vs. Orioles hitters ... my hunch.
I noticed the same thing about pablo and his quickness to the plate. i forgot who it was but davis was at the plate and they had a hit and run and luckily davis fouled it off but the guy was practically at 2nd by the time the ball got to the plate.

Completely agree about aguilar. Didnt like the signing but theres no doubt through 4 games that his type of ppower is something we just dont have in the lineup.

And howd i know you would overreact to monte's initial time in the lineup

    - - - - - - - - - -

one thing that did stick out to me is that i wish that isan stuck around. stinks that we have to watch re-treads with no future here like forsythe and berti rather than a piece of the future get development time for 2 months but i cant really blame him.

    • I'm not sure Lee's overreacting about Monte. I hope I'm wrong.

he's going to struggle early on so id get used to that. it's why the talk about bringing him up prior to the service time deadline was nonsensical. the guy has a clear hole in his game that is gonna take time to adjust to the major league level.

Doubtful any guys are back before home stand on like 13 or 14. More likely u get a Castano or Sharp start today and they go 4 innings. Then in few days get a SP on DFA

Well, by the numbers, Monte whiffed in his last eight at bats during scrimmages to conclude spring 2.0. Then once in two ab vs Atlanta. Then three in a row at BALT. That's 12 out of his last 13. The problem is that Monte only has two strikes to work with. Once he has two strikes, his ab is over. Even Lewis Brinson managed to put four balls in play.

Eddy should get his chance tonight ... and will take full advantage of it!

I'm more concerned that what little I've seen from him this year affirms his minor league track record more than shows any type of growth or improvement. He did look great defensively last night in CF.

              • I’m rooting REALLY hard for Monte but his approach last night when it was 0-2 was very concerning.

                  • Monte has four truly great tools and even a fifth if you count personality. What's missing is the hit tool, but that's the big one. I read something about how he should have kept his leg kick because it at least enabled him to hit the long ball. At any rate, I'm sure the coaches have worked very hard with him and equally sure it has done no good to this point.

                    • i think if monte can get the k rate to even a bad-below average level his tools will make him a decent starter at worst. obviously he cant sustain a historically high k rate but if he gets it remotely under control thats a guy who plays a great CF, has a phenomenal arm, can steal bases in droves and can do so efficiently, and has some pretty obvious pure power. I dont expect him to be all that great this year but if he can hold his own, give us the occasional homer and contribute in other ways this year until he figures out how to improve the plate discipline thats about all you can ask for.

What i hope is that they stick with him ride or die for these next two months. we're not in all likelihood going to be a playoff team although the good start does give us some hopes, I just dont want them to do what theyve done for some other guys and jerk them in and out of the lineup for veterans with no long term future here. the guy should be starting at least 80% of the games and see if he sinks or swims.

Also, at this point id like to see jesus sanchez up here to do the same. I like brinson as a guy and i feel bad that he was rushed by us his first year here when it was clear from his 2018 spring stats that he had 0 plate discipline to survive at the ML level but i just dont see it happening anymore because he goes up there with an obvious lack of confidence from what i see. i liked the way he worked the counts and that beats him going down seemingly 0-2 or 1-2 in every at bat like it had been, but i just dont see the type of confident powerful swings from him.

Players could strike next year......been discussed on many shows & sites. Thy want it done before 2021 & if the player/owner negotiations this year are any indication....there could be a considerable work stoppage, beginning in 2021

                        • I'm scared for Monte too. I'd much rather get a professional hitter than a "great" athlete. All people talk about in Monte and Brinson is how great athletes they are lol but they can't hit the ball. I'd much rather get a Bartolo Colon body that can hit than a "athlete" that can't make contact.

Pablo looks great, and if he continues to pitch like that he's a number #2 starter. Avillar has been great. Cervelli has been great too.

Lets see how the team progresses against better teams. If we can take 3 out of 4 from Baltimore I will be excited.

Monte might just be BRINSON 2.0..... Hill can't blame Loria in the Yelich trade and so far that trade is sooooo so so bad Brewers get Christian Yelich, the Marlins get

You can't really blame Jeter too. It was a good trade on paper.... Yelich isn't doing too hot right now either

No I blame Hill mostly as Jeter made it quite clear when all the trades were happening that Hill was running that side of the show.

I don't know on paper it was that good. Brinson flopped at the Rangers, then with Milwaukee so it's not like there wasn't a record of his being a really poor player. A guy usually isn't on 3 teams in such a short period of time & becomes a star. Teams generally hold on to players they think will be legit stars.....as for Yelich, an MVP and just going through a rough time, but look at what he did so far, compared to what our collection of players we got from Milwaukee have done - it's not close...

Harrison still has time to prove himself though, but to not look REALLY STUPID on that trade Harrison needs to become a really legit bat, because it wasn't money the reason they traded Yelich he was on a more than reasonable 2nd contract.....
