  • fish16, it’s just fun to challenge some of the outrageous things you say.

“There won’t be a season” is a weird thing to say after owners have provided the MLBPA with a proposal and the KBO is moving along fine with no issues.

they can propose lots of things that doesnt change the testing situation that will be the ultimate issue. I just think it will take too long for it to get fixed before the season would have to be way too short for starting the year to make sense. Again, you can continue to bring up the KBO however many times you want, it is 0 comparison as of right now considering how 100% different their virus situation currently is due to that countries initial response to the virus.

      - - - - - - - - - -

South korea has just under 11,000 total cases and just 258 deaths because they arent being run by a moron and took the testing and contact tracing seriously from the start. We have over 1 million cases and 80,000+ deaths because we didnt and still arent.

      - - - - - - - - - -

so ya, continue to bring up the KBO all you want but its a nonsensical argument that has 0 bearing on what happens here.

      • The challenges facing the country as a whole are different than the challenges that the MLB will face. That's all I'm saying.

Exactly. MLB only has to figure out how to play baseball games with no fans. They don’t need to fix the problems of the United States

Yup. If there is something that cancels the season, it won't be testing.

Obviously, as a country, we need more testing, but the numbers are increasing. They are testing about 300K per day now and the trend has been that it has doubled approximately every 4 weeks. For arguments sake, let's assume, each team needs to test 100 people per day for 100 days...that would be a total of 300K tests needed for the season. MLB can certainly get that amount of tests over the course the shortened season.

I think you severely underestimate the amount of tests a team would need per day. it is far more than 100.

I don't know that it's "severely underestimated", but it was just a ballpark number and that is assuming that they are testing every member of the team daily, which may or may not be the case. The traveling parties for road teams will be limited, as will the amount of people allowed into the ballpark on game days. But let's just say it's double my estimate. That's 600K tests or 20K per team for the season. I'm certainly no expert on this, but I don't see how that amount of tests would be impossible to acquire.

                  https://twitter.com/Ken_Rosenthal/st...506896900?s=20

About 40 percent of #Marlins baseball operations employees will be furloughed June 1, sources tell The Athletic. Total expected to be between 90 and 100. Team paying employees through May, expects to cover health benefits of those furloughed through October. Evaluating monthly.

                  • MLB Network showing Game 4 of the 2003 World Series. Kinda surreal seeing all the dick sucking and fawning over it being Clemens' last game that the Fox Broadcast did considering 1. It was not even close to being Clemens' last game and 2. The Steroid stuff. Cabrera hitting that homer off him in that game sure was sweet, though.

i still remember that game from the left field upper deck. i was 9 damn years old but so much of that playoff run is memorable and i was lucky enough to go to every home game that playoff run. Couldnt see a god damn thing from like the middle of left field to the wall but still remember the sound of gonzalez hr hitting that random spot over the left field wall.

btw just want to say that in no way do i want to be right about my thoughts on when/if the season will start at the reported day. id love for namaste to be right. one question im dying to know the answer to is how the minors will work? There will have to be at least some sort of upper minors for possible injury replacements i would assume, but an outright cancellation of the majority of the minor league year would be a complete disaster for us.

                        • Hasn't been mentioned yet but 82 game season with Marlins playing mostly NL and AL East teams could mean another Top 3 pick next year for us very easily. 2020 is a throw away season anyway for us only negative is no real games or anything for minors. Likely will be a taxi squad of upper level and a Rookie ball team(Dont forget Arizona and Florida opened up for pro sports-very easy to play AZL and GCL). It sucks but this is a great year to be crap-season is a gonna be a joke anyways

2021 Draft WILL be 20 Rounds and Miami could have 3 of the Top 40 picks in a draft that could have most talent in it ever. HS guys in JC/college guys who went back to school will be in it

                          Top 3 Right now are
                          Jack Leiter(Vandy Ace)
                          Kumar Rocker(Vandy Ace)
                          Luke Leto(HS SS from Michigan)

I would take ANY of those 3

Crazy to think the talent we could have in June 2021 in our system and be ready to go in 2021

                          - - - - - - - - - -

Something that has been discussed about minors is this

Taxi Squad-"Games"/workouts with mix of AAA/AA players
Low Level/Rookie Ball-AZL/GCL workouts/games. AZ and FL are BOTH open for business-Each team would have 2 teams(Example Marlins Black and Marlins Teal) and would be mix of Class A guys to Rookie Ball guys OR even 1 team with A Ball guys and the other team with Rookie level guys. NOTHING set yet

Pretty much ST type thing where the Low Level/Rookie Ball guys stay in Florida or Arizona but play actually games on Rookie Ball fields. If anyone has seen a GCL game its pretty much 25 people in the stands with 18 of them being scouts

Again NOTHING is set but this is something they are talking about

That's funny...I was actually thinking about this yesterday. Potentially adding Kumar/Leiter and Lacy to the rotation over the next few years would be awesome. That said, an 82 game schedule and all the weirdness surrounding this season would likely produce some pretty random results...so who knows what would happen. It'll be interesting to watch either way...hope we get to see it!

Well if they do play its gonna be 82 games with us playing alot against hard teams. Baltimore sucks but that it. Just saying its not a bad year to be resetting especially since the FO had this as its last throwaway year before serious

Well yeah...our competition SHOULD be tough. I'm just saying that this Marlins team was likely going to be somewhat improved anyway and with the short season and all of the other weirdness (injuries, sickness, layoff, lack of fans, etc.) it wouldn't shock me to see a team you wouldn't expect (Marlins or someone else) end up with a better than usual record...and also good teams end up with a worse record than you would think.

But I do agree...being terrible one more year wouldn't be the worst outcome either.
