  • delgado was a great signing. loved his one year here and wish we kept him through that contract. poor (not so poor) guy was one of the more underrated hitters of the 2000's. not many guys had as good of a bat as that dude plus his swing was insanely pure.

we also got awful value in his trade. got jacobs and petit. jacobs was the best baseball player of all time if off speed pitches didnt exist though.

Alot of HS have already withdrawn from the draft. Dont forget these guys will only get like 100K to sign after Rd 4 and most of that won't be till after 2022

I dont mind taken a HS guy if they are willing to sign but doubt we will see the strategy u think

Petit was actually NYM #2 arm and #46 Ranked prospect in baseball when trade happened

Doubt Jeff had much to do with it back then but since he owned the team it was like they just looked at rankings and based all off that. No scouting or anything just ask for highest ranked prospect and be happy

Hard to get great value for a guy when you sign him to a 4 year/$52 million contract and only pay him $4 million in the first year with the expectation you'll trade him after the first year. We even threw in $7 million to the Mets and that's the best we could do.

        • Asa Lacey and then TJS recovering JT Ginn with second pick. Best case outcome for 2020 draft?

Lacy is the guy I want. Unless somehow Torkelson drops to us. Two American League teams in front of us, I just don't see it happening.

2nd pick I look for maybe a HS bat. Somebody that maybe slipped due to signability issues. Maybe even a catcher? Tyler Soderstrom or Drew Romo? Then go for some signable older college players in the next 2-3 picks like we did last year, to save money to pay for that HS player.

No chance Tork drops unless Miami is where he wants to go and he asks for some crazy contract. Heard he is fine going to Det or Balt the bigger question is if Austin Martin falls do we take him or a P

No need to save cash since its likely only a 10 Rd Draft and guys don't have to be paid in full till 2022(Only have to be paid 100K till July 2021). Reason we took guys like Burdick/College Arms was to spend more on HS guys but the draft will only be 10 Rds.I dont mind taking HS guys IF they have deals agreed to but alot of HS have already taken their names out of the draft and the ones that haven't arent to keen on taking 100K to sign

Our 2nd Rd Pick is 1.85 million and #3 Pick is worth 7.22 Million which means we can save cash in Rd 1 very easy

2 HS C have already pulled out and about 20 Top 200 guys have

              • 2020 Draft is gonna be nothing like ever seen before. We will have the cap pool at like 13 million for 11 picks BUT reality is u only have to pay the guys 1.1 million MAX until 7/2021 so saving cash means NOTHING in this draft since u could draft a guy in Rd 9 sign him for Rd 3 cash but don't have to pay him for 2 years

                Teams could go BPA
                Teams could go College Guys
Teams could just draft 10 HS and sign as many as possible

Pretty much depends on what their minors look like. Marlins have tons of prospects in Lower Minors already and need the AA/Hi A types which means BPA/College types are the best bet. U could see teams like SD/TB take multiple lotto tickets since no space in minors and teams like Milwaukee/Wash/LAA just take high end college guys and fast track them. I wouldnt be surprised if see a team draft like 3 or 4 guys who are copies of each other and hope 1 pan out

I feel like you're presenting a lot of things as certainties that are just based on rumor and conjecture at this point. Even the 10 rounds thing isn't official, although it looks like that's what it will be.

10 Rds with 2019 slot values and pool again is the Draft. Gonna be June 10 and 11

Guys get paid 100K or less NOW,50% before 7/2021 and other 50% before 7/2022

Only real issue is UDFA max $ and if u can sign as many as u want

THIS is what has been discussed and is very likely what will happen which is why presenting as certain

and me. All players who go undrafted would be eligible to sign for a maximum of $20,000. While there was a proposal to the union for a 10-round draft, the sides didn’t come to an agreement.

                        • Crazy. Lots of juniors likely head back to college. And Many highs school kids go to college or junior college I’d guess.

                          • 5 rounds, god damn, oh we just decreased the number of rounds by 800% that's all. What a bummer for high school seniors and college juniors.

                              • They were given 2 options

10 Rd Draft with UDFA Limit OR 5 Rd Draft with No UDFA Limit

Terrible IDEA either way-Draft should hve been 10 Rds then moved to 20 for future

I will say 1 thing Rd 5 will be insane!! U are gonna have teams trying to see if HS guys who don't wanna go to College are willing to sign for 400K or get a college guy u really like but don't think can sign in UDFA

Round 5 guys get at least 300K while "Round 6" UDFA guys will get 20K

The UDFA Market will be fun to see tho. Gonna have players pick where they wanna go-Jeter better be on that phone quick to all the Florida guys as well as guys with ties to South FL. U could get some solid Puerto Rico/Latin guys who have ZERO interest in going to school and have family in the area
