It was and as a veteran for BP guys.

Doesn't mean his presence both on and off the field after he was traded wasn't missed.

    • Romo has been worth 2 wins over the course of the last 4 years. I think one of our regulars would call that slightly above average.

      • Brinson is Grapefeuit League Yelich.

            • From Marlins radio last night: Boxberger was throwing like former Rays great self at 94. Last season his fast ball was at 90. Could be great pickup.

All roads lead through the 40 man:

                  Marlins 26/40 man rosters

                  C - Alfaro, Cervelli, Wallach (3)
                  1B - Aguilar, Cooper, L. Diaz (3)
                  2B - I. Diaz, Berti (2)
                  SS - Rojas, Jazz (2)
                  3B - Anderson (1)
CF - Villar, Sierra, Brinson, Monte (4)
OF - Dickerson, Ramirez, Joyce, J. Sanchez (4)
                  =19

SP - Sandy, Caleb, Pablo, Urena, Yamamoto,, E. Hernandez, Dugger, Neidert, Sixto, E. Cabrera (10)
RP - Kintzler, Stanek, Y. Garcia, Steckenrider, Brigham, Sharp, Guzman, (7)
                  LP - Conley, Tarpley (2)
Other - Holloway, Mejia (2 - likely non 2020 players)
                  =21

You're giving up on a young guy with years of control to add anyone.

It might not be a big deal, like if you DFA/trade Sierra and add Kemp, or Rodriguez, or "Eddy Alvarez," or if you just want to give up on pretty much just Dugger and DFA/trade him. But you have some real choices to make to add anyone else and might be best to just roll with the kids.

I don't think Steckenrider has thrown yet, so maybe he is 60 day DL'd and that opens up a bullpen spot for this to sort itself out. Assuming it's not a longterm injury, that's a best case procedural situation to not lose someone.

This is going to be a lot easer to manage in July when Cervelli, one of Aguilar/Cooper, Joyce, Urena, Conley, and some of Villar, Dickerson, Rojas, Caleb, Yamamoto, Hernandez, Dugger, Kintzler, Stanek, and Y. Garcia are moved out for prospects.

That seems like a lot of guys to shed, but you have a quick conversion to this on the 25 man, and no one is crying:

                  C - Alfaro, Wallach
1B - L. Diaz, Aguilar/Cooper (one of them just has to go)
                  2B - I. Diaz, Berti
SS - Villar/Rojas (one stays to bridge to Jazz for next year)
                  3B - Anderson
                  CF - Monte, Brinson/Sierra
OF - Dickerson, Ramirez, Sanchez (likely Dickerson stays)
SP - Sandy, Sixto, Neidert, Pablo, Yamamoto/Hernandez/E. Cabrera (Caleb moved)
RP - Guzman, Brigham, Dugger, E. Hernandez, Sharp (let's say all the relievers moved)
                  LP - Tarpley, Castano, Stewart/D. Lee/Other

You probably have 8-10 forty man spots to play with to get through the year at that point to try out anything with a pulse before the Rogers/Garrett/Devers/Jerar/Roberson/Miller guys need to get added. 40 man is going to be really legit next year.

Let's just say Kemp and Boxberger need to be added to the 40 man. I think it'll be fairly painless to DFA Sierra for a spot. I also maintain that they could slip Wallach through. Trading Conely and/or Urena is an option too. That's not even getting into the Brinson debate. So I still think they have plenty of room to work with.

                    • At this point unless he shows something I don’t see Conley making it. They will dfa him at the end of spring

                      - - - - - - - - - -

With the way he’s been talked about I could also see Vesia earning a spot

                      • Conley, Holloway, Sharp (back to the Nats), Brinson and Sierra can all go ... as far as I'm concerned.

brinson will get one last shot to start the year. holloway is a nothing prospect who i think has been overhyped for a year because he has absolutely no idea where the ball is going. sharp will at least get a shot in the bullpen as well because it makes no sense not to at least see what we have there. Sierra will go though.

I don't necessarily disagree with you, but I think my position is, I'd rather keep Dugger than any of these whatever veteran arms that had a good year 3-4 years ago. At least Dugger has hope.

I'd honestly prefer to do a major shake up:

-Nothing prospects for W. Myers, A. Morejon/R. Weathers, O. Miller, and at least $10-15 million
-Move Rojas, Urena, and Cooper to White Sox (all make sense for them) for Z. Collins, and 2+ FV40 prospects not close to 40 man
-DFA Wallach or Sierra, and get another backup veteran infielder for a year until hopefully Miller is ready fast (he hits lefties hard, ideal 2B/SS backup)
-Even better if you DFA both and then sign Puig

Influx of lefties and lefty killers, and you've only added around $30+ million of Myers with getting 3-5 good prospects, and 1 of them elite (the SD lefty).

I am beating a dead horse and maybe this is a deadline move, but they have some real opportunities to do some nice short and longterm things if they take on a little salary risk and move some of the MLB depth.

I can't see Tarpley as the only lefty, but they can certainly fix that with other moves.

They clearly have a plan as they let their 1st and 4th best lefty bullpen arms go away for nothing.
