Dean being hurt is the only reason that not calling him up would be acceptable. Now is the perfect time to give him a shot.

I won't quote everything, but general thoughts:

-Bour is a solid guy, but the market for FA bashers is non-existent (i.e. LoMo last year), so I think he really had little value. At best it was $20 million surplus value range. The only thing peculiar with this whole situation is the Marlins didn't get "two" Mills, and/or threw in money because why do that? Bour is good enough to not do that, but what do we know. I don't mind this though as it's not like he was going to bring back something great in a perfect world anyways. Good luck making the playoffs.

-Mills has been pretty good over his last 260 IP, and if he is a lefty reliever for the pen, great. I kind of trust Denbo here, he knows what he is doing with what the Yankees farm looks like. Hope he works out. The need a few more lefties.

-I forgot about Ortega, that is a good move. He should have been up instead of Galloway. He has a .375 OBP, 13% BB rate, and 9% K rate. Give the guy a shot versus Galloway. Fangraphs did predict him as one of the top MILB free agents - https://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/proj...ent-hitters-2/. He could easily settle into a 4th OF role. Or he could suck and who cares. I like giving him PA to see if they have a bench outfielder for next year.

-But Dean should still get some PA. I think he's coming quick, assuming he also is healthy. This should be an easy ROS depth chart, assuming health to all:

      C - Realmuto, Holaday
      1B - Cooper
      2B - Castro
      SS - Riddle, Rojas
      3B - Anderson, Prado
      LF - Dean
      CF - Brinson, Ortega
      RF - Dietrich

Sorry to see Bour go ... at this particular time. For his sake, the Yankees would have been a better destination. With a strong finish for the Marlins this season, his value would have been higher (and the Marlins would have put a more competitive team on the field the rest of the way). The High-A Clearwater numbers for Mills suggest he's a real longshot.

You thinking Anderson back at 3rd because that's where we ultimately want him to end up? I could see that reasoning. I do think that swapping Dietrich and Anderson is easily the better defensive combination right now, though.

Here's a look at Mills. He entered the year at #22 on the Phillies prospect list but struggled in the 1st half.

            1st: 4.46 ERA, .292 AVG, 1.54 WHIP
            2nd: 2.66 ERA, .217 AVG, 1.18 WHIP

Maybe he can be a little like Pablo Lopez last year when we acquired him at a time when his value was down because of a poor 1st half. He'll start at Jacksonville, so it'll be interesting to see how he finishes out the year in AA.

So much for the theory that Dean is hurt since he's batting leadoff and playing LF tonight for New Orleans. Is there some sort of service time benefit to holding him down until September that I am missing? Because I'm seriously at a loss for why he isn't getting all the ML at bats we can get him right now.

There's literally no acceptable reason for calling up Ortega instead of Dean.

Injury. Supposedly dean left with back issues and not for a call up.

I honestly don't understand this new group at all. This is basically for a rental return. He has to be protected this off season or risk losing the him in the rule 5. Looks to be a pure money dump. They didn't want to pay Bour after this year so they gave up a little this year to be rid of him for next year. Love how they try to spin it that they sent money back to get a prospect. I am not very optimistic that things will go well under these owners. Sure we are rid of Loria but they aren't looking to be much better.

I dont agree that things wont go well under these owners, but while I think Mills is good enough as a prospect, i dont understand the need to dump Bour at this moment for this somewhat light return when he isnt that expensive, especially on this low budget team, and he has 2 years of team control left and we have no real true 1b prospect coming up in the minors

I have said for a while that Bour's value to us given his relative inexpensiveness was more than the value he would get in a trade, and i still agree with that now knowing the return.

I honestly don't see any reason for optimism with these new owners. What have they done besides dump salary to make this team better? I don't trust them and don't see anything in the minors coming up to warrant optimism.

Mills has to be protected or will be available in the rule 5 this offseason so he wasn't a good enough return. Couldn't they have gotten back someone a little younger with more control?

I could care less about Bour I know they didn't want to non tender him this offseason but they really have no one to replace him with. The joke is saying they gave them money to get a prospect. Basically we traded Bour in division and money to be rid of him and his upcoming raise.

Bour represented about 22% of Marlin HR production.

This is exactly what happened. This is not a trade to make the team better in anyway. This is a trade to avoid giving Bour a $2 million or whatever raise next year. Some serious Loria shit.

Me? No I wasn't being sarcastic. It was clearly a move made because the FO had made up their mind that there was no scenario where they weren't going to non-tender Bour in the off-season, because paying Bour $5-6 million over a season is just out of the question. So the dealt him for anything and even sent money so they could get back something.
