I think the odds are 22.45% for us so it's highly unlikely we get it. Given that we are the marlins, we will manage to slip way down. That's why i really think tanking is such a waste in a lot of these sports that have lottery's. even the worst teams odds are extremely low.

They have a 45% chance at a top 2 pick, which in this draft, feels like where you’d like to be. But like you said it’s the Marlins, so they’ll probably fall to like 7th.

But also so often these teams go under slot, and on top of that, prospects’ careers rarely pan out according to their draft rankings. So while it would be really nice to pick 1st or 2nd, the better thing to hope for is they get lucky with whoever they pick.

No team in MLB has better odds of getting the 1st pick than the Marlins do

I’ve recently found myself wondering why I’m even bothering to keep up with trade/signing rumors since we won’t do anything noteworthy.

meanwhile, Soto bidding is reportedly at a minimum of $600M.

Which, because it’s the Marlins, means we won’t get it lol

that's terrific. they are 77-78% likely to not get the first pick, and 55% likely to not get either of the first two picks. Just because they have the best odds does not mean they have good odds.

as he should, he's going to end up as one of the best hitters of all time, and he's been a flat out superstar since the day he got called up to the big leagues. and he's somehow only 26. If there has ever been a free agent deserving of an enormous contract, it's him. just an absolute beast and almost never hurt.

I am checked out, who is saying that? Twitter folks?

That being said, bring him back on a MiLB deal and try to time that one 5 week bender perfectly. Why not. Who cares. But that would be it.

I think you can stretch that to 3 with Holliday, LaViolette, and Canarella, but preferably it is probably the first two as Canarella is sometimes push into 6-10 range in some mocks and the other two are effectively universal 1-2. I'd be thrilled with either on paper.

This team is bound to get good draft news with a bat eventually. It has been a long time. LaViolette going full Langford prospect status would be very welcome for CF as soon as 2026 optimistically.

                    • But I came here to mention the Dodgers 26 man roster has more wealth in deferred money than Bruce Sherman does. And this is effectively the offseason they will probably break me as absent a salary cap it is going to get outrageous with top 5-10 spending teams very quickly with these $600m dollar deals. You can see cheap teams surviving if the big boys only spend high $100 millions, but these guys going into $250-300+m payrolls just completely wipes things out on a depth level. I can't see how anyone competes with what is about to happen in free agency. If you're not spending over $150m, you're going to be left behind in the dust. This sport needs a salary cap badly. I imagine the antitrust talk perks back up shortly.

Hopefully. And It’s so far out who knows what the rankings will look like come draft time. That being said, while it would be nice to get a top 2 pick, LaVoillette gets compared a lot to Braden Montgomery, who was ranked about 8, and went 12 in this last draft, so that’s not super exciting. Holliday is really the only name that really feels like a potential blue chip type.
