That's exactly what Myers is: a backup OF at the end of a roster or a replacement-in waiting at AAA. He's not a player you would dump.

Johnston is a potential LHB off the bench who should be getting a look this spring. He shouldn't be a donation to a team that may see him blossom ala Max Muncy.

    • I see Myers as DLC with better speed and defense. Plus ability to play corner IF as well.

Yes, better speed and defense AND a much better OBP.

On another note, wouldn't mind seeing the Marlins select Cole Wilcox in the Rule 5. Bendix should be very familiar with him and his control problems last season. The Rays also allowed lefty Ian Seymour to go unprotected.

        • Ironically I'd pick Asa Lacy.

He has had injuries that have made him ineffective but one thing this organization does well is help pitchers with issues figure things out.

And he is still a big left who could be a upper 90s fastball/slider reliever.

If we were completely punting on next year I'd be all for it.

            • You can’t sneak asa lacy on the mlb roster all year like he would need to be in the rule 5. He hasn’t pitched since 2022 and he was awful. He’s just a bad pitcher

Lacy has been an injured pitcher who was dubbed the best pitcher in his draft class by virtually every outlet. Injuries happen, esp. to pitchers. That's why drafting them is such a crapshoot and Kyle Teel should have been selected instead of Noble Meyer.

I think you should bring this up about 10 more times then the folks on this board can do something about it.

Ok, and if Teel sucked, you'd be saying the opposite.

The draft doesn't always work out, get over it.

If Teel sucked, he wouldn't have been named as the top collegiate catcher in 2022.

Way to miss the point completely....

                        • I kind of want them to tender Stallings just to see the freak out. They have to choose on that today

I can see them passing on Hampson and Bender (if not healthy) but I imagine Scott, Arraez, Chargois, Luzardo, Puk, Okert, Rogers, Sanchez, and Jazz are locks.

I sure did. Still don't see your point.

the point is you're obsessing over 96 at bats where kyle teel was expected to succeed because he was a college bat going against largely less experienced talent. Like you do for every single guy you fall in love with then never bring up again. He was a 3 year high level college baseball bat, he is expected to crush the lower minor leagues.

BA has him as the 89th top prospect, noble meyer is listed as 41st.

                              • Shockingly, Bendix's first signing as a marlins is....... former ray Tristan Gray. AAA depth. Ton of power, 63 hr's in AAA last 2 years. Super low OBP. Reminds me of Dietrich. More of a SS/3b with some 1b sprinkled in. Good depth at least. Better than leblanc. More power than any other SS we've had for years at the very least. Drafted by the pirates and traded to the rays for marlins legend Corey Dickerson.
