I honestly don’t blame Sherman for wanting to hire a co decision maker with ng. Her trades were great, her free agent signings were awful and we have nothing in the way of impact bats on the way, though that’s not entirely her fault. I also don’t blame her for saying fuck you and probably getting a better job out of this. I see both sides, but pretty stupid to just not let her continue after a fairly magical year and the first playoff berth in 20 years. Self inflicted wound

This is fair but she should be “1” and not “2” with a co-decision maker. I think that’s where Bruce failed here unless he pulls a “McDaniel” out of his ass and then all the props to him.

Big picture, give anyone with decent FO experience a $120m payroll and I bet the team looks good with at least 3 arbitration extensions we would be pleased with. I do think Kim can do that, so this is just a fear of the unknown with god knows what they do.

Am I the only person that just wants one person making the decisions? More levels of management is rarely a good thing. Let the GM/POBO make the final decisions and be done with it.

Congrats to Sherman. He handled things humanely and won't get much political crap over it.

While I don’t think she was the best GM for reasons mentioned above, I do think she earned a 3 year extension offer, not just an option year (assuming it was a single year option and not a multi-year option).

she still had things to learn anout in-season roster management, and had things to complete here - we know many of the issues with the team and don’t need to rehash.

this news of Bruce wanting to add a PBO above her is strange, and no wonder she left, along with the lack of a multi-year offer.

why would he not just make her PBO and get a new GM under her? Seems strange to me.

that said, before this season, many of us were ready to move on from her anyway, but this will annoyingly result in a new transition period where a new GM will want to evaluate the roster and reshape it to his (or her) liking.

I really don’t understand why he decides to shake things up after successful seasons, but stays the course after poor seasons….doesn’t paint a positive picture of ownership.

I would have given her one more year but I’m really more interested In who we bring in now. She had her strengths and weaknesses, not upset she’s gone, but they desperately need to make a good choice here

We were 33-14 in one run games. 2023 wasn’t nearly the success for the Marlins that the casual MLB fan thinks it was.

That is true, but banking on winning more tight guys with a bullpen is a strategy and she did a great job building it. Still over achieved for sure, but I’d say they equally under achieved with Sandy, Rogers, Jazz, Segura, etc. at the same time. I’d have loved to see what Kim would do so with $120m next year (if Bruce would do it). But alas.

I suppose the good news here is someone is inheriting a mostly fully stacked staff with some foundational bats (Arraez, Jazz, Burger, Sanchez). Maybe anyone taking the job is going to demand some payroll as anyone with a clue knows they need to spend on 2-4 guys and trade for another 1-3 to make this work without Sandy. Any shlub will look like a genius pulling off Jansen and Adames/Ortiz trades, then adding a free agent stick, SP, and right handed reliever on top, and extending Arraez, Luzardo, Eury, Jazz, and Scott. These are layup ideas ignoring the financial aspects of Bruce.

No SS, no C, a -66 Run Diff and no bats in the farm system. I liked Kim but this is not a huge deal.

What confidence do you have in Sherman to hire a good replacement? Making the playoffs was a little bit of smoke and mirrors sure, but it was still a huge accomplishment, and Kim showed she could make the necessary moves to get it done. The Sherman administration has been an unmitigated disaster up until this season. This season ends and Sandy is out for 2024 and Kim is completely gone. Gotta love being a Marlins fan.

If we played .500 ball in one run games it would have been another disaster.

I’m not saying this isn’t annoying. But I think it’s being overblown (mostly on Twitter not necessarily here). The free agent signings have been rough and the only draft pick that looked good is recovering from

My confidence in Sherman to find a good replacement is a 7 on the 10 scale.

Based on??? I mean all we know for sure is that the most expensive candidate is not getting the job.

Don’t expect changes in drafting, I guess. Ugh.

He managed to accumulate a net worth of $600 million. I suspect he will use the same skills he used to accumulate that when he chooses a new GM.

Whether or not he increases payroll to make the team competitive with the Phillies and Braves is a whole different discussion.

I’m not sure Sherman equates winning with making money.
