They likely got a good young SP (Alvarez)

They got a top 80-100 overall prospect in baseball (Marisnick), who does play CF so at least this pushes Yelich to LF on the longterm team

They got a good arm who strikes out a lot of people and might be something in 2 years (Nicolino)

They got a young utility infielder (Hechavarria)

They got a stopgap league average at best shortstop for 1 season (Escobar)

They got a bad backup catcher (Mathis)

They got a throw in bullpen arm 3 years away if even that (DeSclafani)


Buster, I know Toronto is absorbing $170 million, but they get 5 seasons of Reyes, 3 seasons of Buerhle, 2 seasons of Bonifacio, a season of Buck, one season of JJ, and at minimum, two compensatory picks in top 75 next year for JJ. Which instantly replaces the 2nd and 3rd best assets on paper traded away.

This trade would have been good if Reyes wasn't involved. They need D'Arnaud or Lawrie, and two more moderate guys at minimum.
