  • Sandy, Luzardo, Cueto, Rogers, Cabrera ...

That Cueto name jumps out at me. The Marlins are kind of committed to a disaster there I think.

I’m sure that’s totally rational and not based on a bad spring start

      • Cueto is 37 but throws like 88.

It's not like he was throwing mid-90s last year.

          • He’s been throwing with an average fastball velocity of 91.5 every year since 2016. Lee is of course basing his entire valuation of cueto based on his first spring start, which couldn’t be more lee

            • He’s also never thrown all that hard. The hardest he’s ever thrown was 93.4 his rookie year

              • soler and garcia are both hitting the ball well to start spring. those guys having a big year goes a long way as we have discussed at length. Soler had a homer yesterday off of a major league pitcher in espino for the nats. Nick fortes has walked a good amount so far.

Didnt see the game but cabrera by the stats had a nice spring debut. Braxton garrett hasnt done much to show he belongs in the top 5 of the rotation through his first 2 starts. but again, it's spring, so take things with a grain of salt, especially pitchers, as they are working their arms into shape and testing things theyve worked on in the offseason.

I'm hoping for a rebound from them too. But remember, Brinson always lit up spring and we know how that turned out...

while true, Soler and Garcia have a track record of success in the regular season at the big league level, and while Brinson's overall numbers looked good, it was clear every spring that his numbers wouldnt hold up in the regular season. His K/BB ratio every single spring was putrid. That's why, and you can go back, his first year i was advocating for him to start the year in AAA because his overall numbers in spring looked good, but his K/BB ratio was 17/3 in 58 at bats and was clearly not going to hold up in the regular season.

                      • Fangraphs graciously identified the Marlins as a contender in pointing out the NL's weaknesses - https://blogs.fangraphs.com/the-weak...ue-contenders/

TLDR - Cooper and Garcia, and Wendle/gang are barely over the competency line

I'm not sure I agree with this, but that's more about the longterm view in getting a better SS situation and thus trickling out Arraez to 1B more often, which trickles Cooper to DH, which trickles Soler to the OF, which spreads out playing time for Garcia/DLC/Sanchez..

In any event, let's return the favor and send 4 shitheads to the Brewers for Willy Adames.

TBH I'd be open to taking YELICH back. He is owed 6/$162.5 moving forward (ages 31-36 seasons). He can still hit even if they are ground balls and any loft change will improve him if he can do it. I am imagining this is the Brewers eating $30m (that is how much they deferred to 2031-2042 so let's put that on them) and the Marlins sending them back Garcia (3/$41m). I think Yelich becomes a lot more stomachable at 6/$91.5m basically, which is $15.25m per season. That's a lot of money for the Brewers to get out of and Garcia should be competent (and a better defender) for 3 seasons. You can probably buy out Adames for like 8/$175m right now which rights the wrong of not getting Swanson. I really like Adames defensive floor and power upside. He's very good. If the Brewers aren't going to sign him (all indications they will not), maybe the Marlins would use this as the "Jayson Werth" deal.

I think the deal would be something like:

BerryMeyer/Eder, Amaya, A. Garcia, and a solid 4th player (Sanchez? Burdick? Jerar?), and maybe a throw-in RP on top (Nardi, Simpson, Reynolds)
                        for
                        Adames, Yelich, $30m

This is probably a deadline thing as I suspect the Brewers are looking to make the playoffs and maybe the Phillies really run away with second WC. Just another way they can use their payroll as a weapon. This wouldn't rock the boat with dumping Garcia, Soler coming off the books, and Adames could be their 1 huge contract with normal extensions for optimistically Arraez/Jazz/Rogers/Luzardo. They'd be fucking set once the 2024 pitching arrives which is club controlled forever. Sigh.

I happen to like the current blue, but I don't think it's used enough. No reason for us to not have a blue alt instead of the black.
It was, but I still liked the mockups nonetheless. I agree that if they're going with the blue, there should be a uniform that features it.

                            • Andrew Painter may have just blown out his arm - https://twitter.com/byalexcoffey/sta...58387401703427

If you don't know who that is, it is a Eury Perez level SP prospect on the Phillies who was likely to break camp. Would be a brutal loss for them, worse than Max Meyer. So that's good news for the Marlins potentially even if sad for the sport.

Sorry I preferred a rising Pablo Lopez to a declining Cueto. Did like the Amaya pick up for Rojas and Puk for Bleday.

Sorry I preferred an all around ball player like Brooks Lee for a never-gonna-be like Jacob Berry.

Am especially anxious to see what Jake Eder does.
