  • I find uniform talk to be among the thing i care least about talking about. I wish they would go back to the classic pinstripe and have some teal, but i could really not care less. I care about who is starting in LF and who the hell is closing games.

Well the team doesn't seem to care about that stuff, so why should we haha.

      • Eury and MacIntosh got invites to Spring Training. Can’t read too much into that though, right?

        • McIntosh is a C so he's probably just to help with that. Lots of catchers get invitees just to help with the volume of arms early in ST.

I agree - all the catchers come in to catch the arms. McIntosh is also the kind of guy who will benefit from automated balls/strikes (happening across AAA this year). Basically, a next year player player as that expands into MLB likely soon. He's really interesting with his slash line last year if he can not lose much AVG/BB moving up levels. I am sticking with my prediction that my break out minor league player of the year for the Marlins are "all catchers." McIntosh, Allen, Banfield, Mack, and Hernandez. All of them exceed expectations is my pick.

Also Berry #6 3B prospect on MLB pipeline. Not the best scouting service, but just saying - https://www.mlb.com/prospects/3b

says a lot about mlb pipeline when he's not even a 3b. there has not been a single reputable outlet that says he can stick at 3b long term. he is a clear 1b/DH guy.

              • also, the non roster invitees are all about RP's who might potentially make the rosters, C's who will provide human live bodies who will catch baseballs for a few weeks with all the P's every ML organization has, and just other "guys". Paul Mcintosh to me feels like someone who can become a guy, but it feels like if he would have become a guy, they would have moved him up to AAA or even given him a MLB chance in a lost year last year. He only had 318 AB's last year as a 24 year old in AA. Maybe he is the next evan gattis, but most likely he is a guy who should have been drafted but is now old for his age but isnt a legit mlb prospect.

Wasn't his draft year the year the draft was only 5 rounds? He was drafted out of high school.

you know what? it never occurred to me thats why that happened? I cant seem to confirm via the internet thats what happened. but i havent even begun to think that the 2020 draft class would have a ton of "undrafted" free agents that would otherwise be "relatively" high draft picks. That would make so much more sense. Im gonna do more investigation into what he was thought of before that draft year. the entire 2020 season might just be a complete throw out. think of how many quality players come from the 5th round and further.

McIntosh? He was a 2021 undrafted FA out of West Virginia - that was the "20" round draft year. So he "fell" pretty far. Seems like a good signing by the Marlins though as getting guys that far down the list through AA is an accomplishment in itself. The triple slash line is interesting with the very good BB/K even if he's old for his age. I'm hoping he can play just enough catcher (with robot umpires) to be a mashing 2nd catcher, but we'll see what happens.

                      • Some random blurbs

Got a MLB mention as a rising prospect in system, but he's still outside top 30 on their list - https://www.mlb.com/news/marlins-pro...oved-most-2022

Brief mention fangraphs - he is bad defensively and will need to hit - https://blogs.fangraphs.com/miami-ma...rospects-2022/

Random ass site, says he looks good - https://www.justbaseball.com/prospec...he-backfields/

He's probably an outside 30 guy right now, but you never know with catchers. They are often late bloomers and they don't need to put him on the 40 man until after 2024 so just set him and forget him in AA/AAA and see if the defense gets to MLB standards and that BB/K doesn't evaporate.

                        • Jesus Sanchez break out candidate article - https://blogs.fangraphs.com/further-...tter-breakouts. Maybe this is the reason they aren't looking to go all-in on Reynolds as DLC also has his own breakout articles - https://fantasy.fangraphs.com/its-ne...-2023-sleepers. Some real hope here if they can make some contact, or even platoon split into something viable. Just keeps leading back to SS (or CF and re-move Jazz to SS) and bullpen for me.

                          • I think the reason they havent gone all in on reynolds is because he is not yet actually available.

They wrote a glowing report on Elieser Hernandez last year too, which you posted multiple times.

                              Fangraphs is weird at times.

Guys have tendencies and sometimes they work out. If this was easy, everyone would have winning teams. Guys with 90% exit velocities explode if they can make a little more contact. That's the whole story here.

Also since he is your favorite punching bag, the projection systems peg Hernandez for a 3.84-4.29 ERA next year. He is likely high on the list of the next "Harold Ramirez" or "Austin Nola" that becomes a minor annoyance he worked out elsewhere. Who knows if he ever does it and it was right to move on, but this stuff happens. Berti was stuck in Toronto's farm 2011-2018, and since 2019 has produced 5.1 WAR for the Marlins in just under 1200 PA. You never know.
