I liked the Rojas trade, but I do think it's interesting that the way the team is currently constructed, they could actually really use him. I'd rather have him on the roster, moving some of the versatile guys around a bit during the season than trot Wendle out there every game. I'm hopeful that this actually means that they are targeting other SS options, rather than the alternative which would be the front office just making moves without a bigger picture plan.

Ideally I agree. I think because of his injuries, just how low his obp is has gone unmentioned. He shouldn’t be hitting first or second, but with this team with his power he should be in a position where he can drive in runs. Absent reynolds, he should be hitting 3rd

If he's 100% healthy come April 1st, what's his role? Do you think about converting him to closer right away, to try to keep him healthy? Is it too early for that?

Stick him in AAA and throw him in short bursts for awhile (months). Make a larger decision in June with how he is doing and how many innings he can throw (this is likely 100-120 IP max). He has a lot of conditioning, footwork, timing, building up his arm, defense, etc. to work on. He's barely played in 3 years. I don't see him as a MLB option until the summer, and then at that point, do you play the service time game as let's say he is healthy and looks good, if you wait to roughly August 1st (effectively, last 65-68 days of the season), he'll end the year with under 1 year of service time (ala Cabrera and Garrett) and you still have him 6 full seasons.

He's a bonus to me and really a 2024 player along with Meyer, Eder, Bender, and Eury. Getting anything from this group is a bonus this year.

His pitch mix is way too good to force him into a closing role IMO. If he's healthy and in shape, I think you have to give him another shot in the rotation. If you end up having too many good starters, that's a good problem to have, and you can then just deal one of them for another bat (maybe finally get a good catcher).

Yea, see above. Get him healthy and then you can see what happens. He'll make that decision with his performance/health (as well as all the other guys who are the best 5-6 SP).

100% to everything. Hope they get a SS, as this Gurriel news is dumb and is a "making moves without a plan" (absent further moves of course). He was *really* bad last year and is turning 39. Make it make sense.

Fuck, I've never felt like we've gotten the whole story of what's been going on with him for the last 2 years.

Not sure the organization agrees with that philosophy based on what they did with Garrett/Cabrera. But big picture, if he's ready and a 2.5 year layoff didn't impact him, I would agree. Let him rip. But if it's June 15th and has been in the minors and he looks great.... you have a 6 week decision to make (15-20 innings?) versus a year of service time. I'm just saying here - it may be part of the calculus, but ultimately it's going to be how good he looks if he is healthy. It would be a great boost if anything comes of him.

If he is 100% healthy, looks awesome, and is deemed MLB ready - a 2+ inning reliever for April-June and reassess in July. That's my answer. He doesn't jump the other starters, so aim him for 100 innings out of the bullpen in 40+ appearances, and you can always shift.

I think the organization cares very much for these things. He's still 24 and has an option this year. They can sit on him this entire season and see if he works out. Big picture, he's 3 months older than Eder.

It’s nonsensical. If he’s healthy he’s on the roster, likely starting as a reliever and working towards the closer role

With the Twins trade, the Marlins now have "ALL STAR" Garrett Cooper playing both first and second base. Both Arraez and Coop are one tool guys. If the Marlins see Arraez as having leadoff hitter attributes due to OBP alone, why the heck wasn't Cooper leading off last season?

The only thing I can figure about a potential Yuli signing is that they think they can trade Cooper for something of value (perhaps Cooper+Sanchez/Bleday/Burdick?) . Otherwise, pairing Gurriel with Cooper at 1B doesn't make a lot of sense.
