  • Well, we have our cf boys. Jazz is moving to cf according to ng. Means we still have space for reynolds in lf if they smartly don’t want to waste a starting spot on de la Cruz, Sanchez, or bleday. If they do and we’re done with moves, this is the roster:

    c- fortes
    1b- coopwr
    2b- arraez
    ss- wendle
    3b- segura
lf- de la Cruz/ Sanchez- honestly the platoon there wouldn’t be terrible
    cf-jazz
    rf- garcia
    dh- soler
bench- berti, stallings, backup of, 5th OF

sp- sandy, luzardo, Cabrera, rogers, cueto

It would not be Jazz. He's probably not even in the top 5 TBH. Jazz is extremely volatile with his hitting profile. It's why the Cubs never did this with Javy Baez. You make him prove it and still control him for 3 years and you do it before he gets a second arbitration tender. That being said, you certainly can entertain a low ball deal for him but this one isn't an urgent need. There are no urgent needs, but Luzardo would make some sense as he is a Super 2 and may scale up a lot if he has a big year. They can wait on Jazz, Luzardo, Cabrera, etc. and it wouldn't be a big deal. Just like Sandy.

Also, so you are excited about trading for a player with bad knees you don't want to extend. Is this real life? They just traded for him. The knees are fine or you don't do this. WOW. Going from the ultimate cheerleader to knocking the guy down immediately. Crazy stuff here.

We still have room for a lf if they are willing to move Sanchez or bleday in a reynolds trade. Rogers, Sanchez/bleday, Eder, and maybe Watson or Lewis or cappe? That’s gotta be enough to get it done for him. I love that team with reynolds. Not so much without him. The one thing I will say is that we have gotten much better at getting on base and making contact. Might be trying to play to this ballpark more

          • Man, with jazz in cf, if they get reynolds, that’s a really good quality lineup. Without him, it’s very mediocre. They need that 1 final piece. As of now, even without Pablo, they still have Garrett as the 6th sp. that’s with Eder and Meyer still in the fold, and eury ready at some point this year. it just makes too much sense to still get reynolds. We shall see.

Now THAT is fucking interesting. I don't think this necessarily means they are done also. This is 12 bats, and they have 1B and 5 2B/SS/3B covered (as Jazz still counts).

              Fortes, Stallings
              Cooper
              Arraez
              Wendle
              Segura, Berti
              DLC, Sanchez
              Jazz
              Garcia
              Soler

It frankly comes down to an outfielder who can hit LHP. If you go hard platoons/splits:

              vs RHP
              Fortes/Stallings
              Cooper/Arraez
              Arraez/Berti
              Wendle
              Segura
              DLC/Sanchez
              Jazz
              Garcia/Sanchez
              Soler
              B - Fortes/Stallings, typically Berti, Sanchez, and _________

              vs LHP
              Fortes/Stallings
              Cooper
              Arraez
              Segura
              Berti
              LF - _______
              DLC
              Garcia
              Soler
              B - Fortes/Stallings, Wendle, Jazz, and Sanchez

Just need an OF to who can hit LHP.

Or maybe something really fun is coming like A. Rosario, Wendle getting moved, and signing Profar. Which opens up getting Segura to 2B versus LHP, and Arraez to the OF so Soler can stay at DH, etc.

              Fortes, Stallings
              Cooper
              Arraez, PROFAR
              ROSARIO
              Segura, Berti
              DLC, Sanchez
              Jazz
              Garcia
              Soler

That team is fun assuming you do not lose a current MLB starter for Rosario. I still think it's missing an OOMPH bat, but Arraez, Profar, Rosario, Segura, and a fun Jazz move to CF is certainly a fun reorganization.

With Rosario being a free agent and the difference between him and wendle not big enough to make an enormous difference, the clear move at this point is reynolds. While the sp depth this year alone would be pushed with an injury, it’s worth it with eury, Meyer, Eder, and Fulton all available next year. Give them Rogers, Eder, Watson, and Sanchez/bleday, and see if they take it. That’s a move that puts them on the map this year, and fucking over the top next year if eury and Meyer are what they look like. And that’s without anything from the ghost of sixto who could be the dominant closer option. Reynolds is the piece here. Moving jazz to cf is huge, don’t rest in our laurels now, put this team over the top. Reynolds and Arraez each have 3 years left. That’s an enormous 3 year window of contention without even signing them, and they should absolutely sign reynolds long term in that case

Who knows what jazz does, but this is why you sign him long term. What a great fucking attitude on him. He told ng apparently that for the team he will move to center, and he will win the gold glove there. Who knows if that’s true, but that’s the kind of guy you build around long term. Fuck Rojas for thinking he was a clubhouse issue

Oh, there's definitely room. It just feels to me like this is them saying they got their bat for a SP, and can now shuffle around what they have to fill out the lineup. She also apparently suggested it would be hard for them to trade another SP now, and Mish said he doesn't think they'll be trading another one.

If this is it, it really just isn't good enough, and the defense could get ugly with a guy playing CF for the first time, a below average defensive 2B, a guy playing SS who probably shouldn't be doing that every day, and a 2B playing 3B.

This is exactly why you don't sign Jazz as you have no idea how to value him with the defense. And you can give him the same deal next year.

You sign Arraez now for 5+. Luzardo for 5 if he takes a fair deal. Jazz/Cabrera/Garrett if they take an insane low ball.

Say no more, and sign him too for 5-6 years and your middle infield could be Rosario-Arraez for 5+ years.

Rosario can't cost a lot. They have internal replacements and need an OF. They could get Marlins prospects and Profar themselves and that's an upgrade for them.

As the biggest proponent for this on the board, this makes me happy. Makes the Arraez deal make a little more sense, still don't love it. Reynolds still needs to be acquired.

They would be really foolish if their worry is about sp for this particular year when they have eury and Eder/Meyer plus Fulton in the wings for literally next year if not the end of this year. Is it ideal? No, but that’s more depth than most teams have, and having sandy plus the young arms they already have gives you a lot of wiggle room. If anything, like Lou said, sign a guy like wacha for a year as insurance. Plus we still have sixto. Who knows what to expect from him, but if they like what they see from him health wise, we have a ton of options for this year. At least enough to make the acquisition of reynolds be the obvious play here

                              • Anything less than dealing for Reynolds and this offseason is a complete failure.
