    • Where does Profar even play? He was exclusively a LF last year. Before that 2B, but we now have about two million guys that play 2B now. Doesn't seem to be viable at SS or CF, so...

I mean, that's for sure. Jesus christ. Arraez has the year of control, but Salas might be their best bet for an internal SS/CF. Yowza.

        • We acquired the AL batting champ by trading from a position of strength.

Absolutely. Arraez is good, but they aren't even eating Scott or Bleier money here? Or throwing in Kepler to get a really premium guy with Salas?

Exactly. He’s really fucking good. Not a power bat but he is an elite hitter

Dude put up great numbers at Jupiter as a teenager. It doesn't happen. Oh well.

Hey if he continues to hit .314 for the rest of his career, boom I'm wrong, we traded for Tony Gwynn awesome. This day and age of baseball I just find that very unlikely he's a .315 hitter the rest of his career, and he needs to be because he's not a power hitter, not fast, and so far has struggled to find a place in the field.

1B/2B/LF, presumably you'd want him to get most time at 2B and dabble with other two. SD had a real superior infield last year so forced to LF. He's fine, in the he's likely a 1.5 WAR starting player kind of guy fine. They have *a lot* of these role player types, but they are worth something.

If they got him, I wonder if they trade out Wendle and jump into the Jazz at SS pool, and Segura plays there against LHP. Here's a depth chart with Profar and a TBD CF, 3 deep. It works without Wendle for sure.

                      Fortes, Stallings
                      Cooper (Arraez, Profar)
                      Arraez, Profar (Berti)
                      Jazz (Segura, Bert)
                      Segura, Berti (Arraez)
                      DLC, Sanchez (Berti)
                      _____ (Sanchez, DLC)
                      Garcia (Sanchez, Soler)
                      Soler (Cooper, Arraez)

He’s hit like that every year

Also, Arraez is an excellent arbitration buyout candidate. Next year is age 26 season. They could easily drop a 6 year deal here around 6/$75-80m and everyone is very happy.

I'd say, positionally he is a problem, but the BB/K is extremely low risk. He probably has a 2 WAR floor at 1B (which isn't great, but look at Garcia's floor), with 3-4 WAR upside with a real peak year at 2B.

Giving up Salas is too much so that really sucks, but Arraez is still good if they use him right.

He's played the equivalent of about 2 1/2 seasons games wise. Yes so far he's been very consistent, let's hope he can keep it up.

And he'll be right as it's an overpay, but we can hate it and like Arraez.

Getting Profar, moving Wendle for help elsewhere, and getting another OF will be very helpful. I can't believe they moved Salas here and didn't get something else.
