  • @JonHeyman
Orioles won arbitration case over Anthony Santander. He will make $2.1M. Marlins are interested, maybe more interested now.

    • Depressing that the world champs can afford to increase their payroll by $40 million next year on one player, and meanwhile we can't afford to spend $5 million on a closer that's worth a damn.

Made worse by the fact that 2021 was going to be when the new Marlins ownership was finally going to open their wallets to fill in the glaring holes.

        • If we sign Contreras I’m 100% ok with our off season

Regardless of which players the Marlins would have to give up to get him?

              Yes, whatever it takes.

A package of Six-ton, Cabrera. Burdick, and Meyer should get it done.

Lee, we have a deep enough farm to get a fair deal done.

Don't forget Bleday. Lee would be happy to ship him off to anyone.

                • No DH in the NL per the agreement they came to

                  • Marlins close to deal with Adam Duvall according to Craig Mish.

                    • Update: Heyman says they have a deal with Duvall. Mish say he gets $2 million this year and has a $7 million mutual option for 2022. He either gets $7 million or a $3 million but out...so $5 million guaranteed.

Good value. I imagine this means an OF of Dickerson/Marte/Duvall with Brinson/Mags/Harold fighting for 2 other spots.

                      • i hate duvall style players. big power, no OBP ability. Combined with alfaro it really makes us way too boom or bust. I know we are in a home run hitting era but to have to rely on just hitting home runs is annoying. We needed more power so this helps there but id prefer to see even a little less power for someone who isn't quite as swing and miss. This also might be the end of brinson/sierra/ramirez as there arent enough spots, especially with no DH.

Weirdly i think this could mean a deal for Cooper or Aguilar. They have never seemed to like Cooper playing in the OF and this only further shows that.

                        • or i think this could mean the end for Dickerson. either way there is a trade to be made somewhere here. Im all for dealing one of the OF's not named marte for more bullpen help, though with the amount of guys still available and the bullpen market depressed I don't see why they wouldn't just sign a guy.

I could be all about Dickerson, an OF prospect, and a SP prospect like Garrett or maybe a young guy for Kimbrel and Contreras. We get the young catcher, they give us Kimbrel while eating some of his salary, and they get an expiring in Dickerson, shed some money with dickerson's contract being one year shorter than kimbrel, and a couple of prospects to rebuild.

                          • I dont like blocking prospects but i also don't want them to be rushed so in that sense it does make a little sense. Jesus Sanchez clearly needs at least another half year in the minors, bleday likely does too, and a bunch of other guys haven't played a real game in over a year and a half so in that sense I like it. I would have just let monte sink or swim for the first month or two but lets see if he can improve his plate discipline to start the year in AAA without having to do it at the major league level. There just definitely is a slight surplus so there seems to be another move on the horizon.

                            • I like it. If he can match what he's done in 2019-2020 in 339 ABs over a full season. (approx. an .850 OPS) Then that's a huge steal.

                              • I think we're stuck with Dickerson. (I could easily see him rebound this year) I think you gotta deal one of Cooper or Aguilar now, especially with no DH for the NL.
