yamamoto was so painfully bad last year that I'm cool with the move, but I'm still a little hesitant to get rid of young guys after just 1 bad year, especially in 2020 of all years. he went from an analytics darling to just impossible to watch so I hope there isn't something that happened last year that explains the drop off and he rebounds somewhere. i doubt it but just something to monitor.
on another note, I checked the 40 man just now to see if another piece made more sense to DFA and holy shit is our 40 man full. this team is just begging for a 3 or 4 for 1 trade. and it could come from a bunch of places oddly enough. On the 40 man OF I could see any of Dickerson, Harold, Sierra, Monte, Jerar, and Brinson all going in some sort of deal whether its a salary dump to make room for young players or a combo of young pieces to make room for a good proven vet.
Same with MI guys. I could see a combo for a proven commodity or I could see us evaluating and just going with Isan or Jazz and trading the other along with the likes of Berti, Devers, etc.
There are so many directions we can go right now and it's so hard to know what the right thing to do is because of no minor league season last year and how stupid it could turn out to be to evaluate guys based on last years shit show of a year.
Maybe the play is just to bring everyone to spring training and seeing where the organization as a whole is at that point. I could see a situation where there are an abnormally hight amount of moves in spring across the entire league because teams haven't seen these guys in real action in a year and a half.
Still think we need 1 more vet rotation piece but the more I read about our potential additions I think we just try to make the bullpen as good as possible and kind of just try to push the young SP arms as much as possible. Sandy, Pablo, and Sixto if health is a pretty damn good 3 to count on and then try to just test the young arms and see if in the aggregate you can get a playoff caliber 4/5 spot in the rotation out of Elieser, Cabrera, Neidert, Rogers, Garrett, maybe detwiler.
We say this every year but the rebuild really can be evaluated so much this year because so many of the guys are becoming ML ready at once. This year I think you should be able to get a good look at Lewin, Isan, Jazz, Jesus Sanchez, Bleday, Monte, Rogers, Neidert, Sixto, Guzman. The key needs to be finding 3-4 long term lineup pieces and seeing if we can get 2 more guys out of the SP options that we can rely on for the future. If I had to bet on 2 guys- I say Jazz turns into an allstar within 3 years and Bleday doesn't become a superstar but a guy who can be a #2 or 5 hitter in a lineup that is just a force. I could see an Ozuna type impact with less pure power but more of a pure hitter. Like a nick Markakis with maybe slightly less plate discipline but more pure power obviously. We shall see but this is a huge year from top to bottom in the organization.

on a less tangenty note, good god that yelich trade is so brutal. Still think Monte and Isan will be decent lineup pieces or could fetch us something in a trade and Brinson showed he isn't completely useless last year, but holy hell it's cabrera 2.0. I think it was good value at the time but man if we keep him and do everything else we're a sure fire contender and sustainable.
Especially with the offers that were discussed prior to the trade. I remember talking about the braves deal and that's what I wanted but holy shit it's reminiscent of looking back and thinking we could have had like Kershaw, Kemp and others.

@JeffPassan
Joc Pederson is in agreement on a one-year, $7 million deal with the Chicago Cubs, sources tell ESPN. First with the agreement was

A very reasonable deal. Hope this helps the Marlins land a bat in this market.Last edited by fauowls44; 01-29-2021, 09:34 AM.

i honestly think we're all set on veteran OF's at this point. Marte and Dickerson are good enough, then you have harold ramirez coming back, and then several young guys who need to be playing everyday like Monte. I don't get the urgency to sign another OF.
