  • I still think we go for a RP who can close(Jeffries/Soria/Kela) a Vet SP who takes a Milb and gets 2.5 when called up and a LHB

That lost season last year I think really messed with our FO minds. They have no clue what they really got with the young guys and cause of ages they have to start playing them. Think they are terrified that they will give up on guys who are good and want to make sure of things. This is 1 reason u see us shy to make moves and all

Dont wanna sign a Joc for RF only to have Jesus Sanchez hitting .380 with 20 Hr in AAA but no place to play or sign a 2B with Jazz and Isan sitting in AAA looking great(NOT saying this would happen but saying this is what they are afraid of)

If we do end up having a DH In the NL, I would give cruz a stupid amount of money on a 1 year deal and slot him in there at DH everyday. that is the type of impact bat we desperately need until hopefully one of the prospects comes up and develops into something good.
It will be like LY where it happens like a month before season players already rejected the idea cause they want more $$$. Owners want it

1000% happens in the next CBA because they both want it too. Players just trying to squeeze another 1% out of owners

Its like the greedy ass NBA-they wanted to add another 2 way contract for younger guy(develop and if needed use) they sent a proposal and Union says sure but it can be any player. Owners are like NO we dont want the Lakers or Bucks signing some 15 time All Star we want it to be a 20/21 yr old so was rejected

It does make sense to not want to block a young bat, which is what Ng told the media yesterday. However, I just think it is likely Bleday that they are worried about blocking with a vet. I would still make a move though since nobody showed enough last year to be counted on. I do like the idea of trading for a Frazier type. Likely wouldn't cost much prospect-wise.

As for 2nd base, I'm perfectly fine letting Diaz and Jazz compete for the job. Jazz should win the job, and of all the young bats, I think he is one that is closest to a breakout. Also, Berti is a viable option if both fail.

They ARE in on Frazier but so are 2 or 3 other teams. That was my thinking too maybe they focus on him or someone else? Kill 3 birds 1 stone-2B/RF and LHB?

Pitt wants quantity over quality BUT want a C in the deal which 1 of the "other" teams has alot of(Its Oakland) but ya he wouldnt cost Garrett or Elieser and probably like Misner and mid level arms

But ya I dont think guys like Bleday,Burdick,Conine are ready till 2022 BUT this is why they were talking 2 year deals and are looking for guys for 2 years(Benintendi/Santander/Frazier). They are just scared to death that they dont know what they have with guys and dont wanna spend 7 million a season and have guys killing AAA but no place to go. If u get a Frazier or another UT type at least u can play him in RF and if they are ready u move him to LF/2B/3B

Just weird that they were talking to 3 FA bats and ALL 3 come off the board within hrs of each other like Miami told them offers off table we moving in another direction. Trade maybe??

He wont win it but dont forget Devers is on the 40 man as well. Should start in AA but he stays healthy and he in mix for 2022 too

          • La Stella got 3/20 which is pretty much what all 3 were asking for and Marlins were talking 2/10-15

You sign Joc to a 1-year deal, you've got 3 proven OF on the last year of their deals making any of them easily tradeable. On of our OF prospect is kicking ass in AAA, boom trade one of the vets to help improve the bullpen. This isn't rocket science.

              • I'm inclined to have some faith in Harold Ramirez. His first taste of the majors in 2019 wasn't overwhelming - until you compare it to the early results from Brinson, Harrison, J Sanchez, etc. His .723 OPS was 6th highest on the team in his rookie year - that's better than Dickerson or Marte put up for the Marlins last season. His numbers at New Orleans were off the charts prior to moving up. The biggest blemish in his performance was a low walk total, not all that unusual for a rookie.

After missing last season due to injury, he is healthy and performing at a high level in winter ball, where he will now lead his team into the Caribbean playoffs. Ramirez passes the eye test like few others. Great personality, huge hustle, very good speed and the odds on favorite to be the Marlins starting RF.

that's nuts to me. how long can NL teams especially wait to find out? There has to be some sort of deadline for teams to have a final answer one way or another so they can plan their roster appropriately.

I think that's fair and about where Im at, but I can see a slight disappointment because of our division being pretty fucking spectacular. Key is just whether the prospects are ready to legitimately contribute. Top 3 in the rotation is rock solid, but our overall outlook can be much different if Cabrera and Rogers are ready to be legit back end rotations this year vs whether they arent and its a guy like Detwiler or some similar retread veteran.

And then you have the lineup which has obvious talent waiting in the wings but obviously no idea how that will pan out vs major league talent and especially right away. IDK why but I have a feeling they let Jazz start at 2b and he shows real promise as a future star. Results weren't great last year but the talent is obvious with him and he started to play a lot better towards the end of the year. Then a lot depends on how a guy like Monte improves and whether or not they are willing to rush Bleday if he shows he is ML ready right away. Our offense is full of solid bats like BA, Cooper, Rojas, Marte, and Dickerson, but if one of those young guys can be an impact bat right away it gives another huge dynamic that we are missing. Also id be much higher on our team if we get Contreras, and I don't understand why there isn't a huge push to get him from our front office. Alfaro is so incredibly bad.

Yeah, obviously things change if some of the young guys can actually show some promise at even average production.

                      • not sure if it will end up happening but latest proposal from mlb is delaying season by a month, 154 games, and a DH. With a vaccine already out there delaying the season a month makes a ton of sense if the goal is to get as many tickets sold as possible after last year.

                          • Nice for Yams if he makes the big league roster - he'll catch the occasional break when he gets to face the Marlins.

                            • Craig Mish has a new podcast with the Herald out today. No real huge news, but he did mention again he does believe another late inning arm will be added. He mentioned 2 pitchers he knows they’ve been in contact with are Kintzler and former Met and Yankee lefty Chasen Shreve.

As far as a bat, he doesn’t rule it out, but is less sure they will add one then he was a month ago. He said if the season started right now, he thinks RF would be a combination of Brinson and Sierra with Harold possibly being the 5th guy. To me, I obviously think they need to upgrade that spot...unless they believe Bleday can be ready relatively quickly (perhaps after the super 2 date).
