they need to let him sink or swim in the majors for 2 months. he has nothing left to prove in the minors.

      I strongly disagree.

      • Monte is 25. 2 years ago before getting hurt he hit .274, an .808 OPS, 20/22 SB, and had 9 hr's in just 58 games. that was 2 years ago. The guy needs to sink or swim in the majors to see what we have. What do we do, keep him in the minors for most of the year and then still going into next year, his age 26 season, not know wtf we have?

Did you miss where we made the playoffs last year? That should be the goal for 2021 as well. When you aren't playing for shit, yeah you can give a prospect 2 months in the majors to see what he has. When you're a contender that prospect has to force his way onto the roster and into the lineup. Monte hasn't done anything close to that yet. Dude struck out in over half his plate appearances last year, I think he's got something left to prove, like that he can make contact with a baseball.

Agree completely with the disagreement. Harrison's stats in AAA in 2019 were right in line with overall team stats .... .270 BA and .801 slugging. And, by the way, the batting numbers of the pitchers were included in those totals! My personal faves Tyler Heineman and Eddie Alvarez were far more productive bats than Monte on that Baby Cakes team.

Monte has no place in a major league lineup until he can show huge improvement in AAA. He needs to learn to tread water in Jacksonville this season. However, I'm all for keeping him with the organization.

I mean yes we made the playoffs and it was a great story but lets not act like it was this unbelievable feat. They expanded the playoffs to 8 teams, the season was only 60 games, and we were 2 games over .500. it's a great moment and super memorable in an awful all around year but it's not exactly this turning point in the franchise that we can expect to be repeated by throwing out the same guys this year. As it stands now if there is a DH we have 1 spot left in the OF after Dickerson and marte, I'm cool with giving a guy like Monte a chance to show something to start the year. Obviously he wont get 2 months if he starts out like he did last year but at least give the guy a chance to play every day.

Man, you've been touting 2021 as the year we go for it for years. We make the playoffs a year early, I don't care if it was a short season, and now you want to go back into re-build mode? I know the roster isn't a finished product, but you gotta find a way to try and do both now, win and slowly get your young prospects in there. Trying to win, isn't starting Monte Harrison in RF, when we know we have better options on the roster. (Cooper/Ramirez) and countless better options in an affordable Free Agent market. The time for Lewis Brinsons is over, there will be no more guys getting 700 major league ABs just to make sure we confirm what we already know. That they suck.

I don't get how starting 1 guy who has proven everything he needs to prove in the minors who was a top 100 prospect as recently as last year is going back into rebuild mode. its evaluating our young talent. If there is a surefire option aside from him, I'm all for it, but I think the potential of him hitting his ceiling or getting close to it is worth it for a month or so as opposed to a guy like harold ramirez who is kind of just a guy. He played 1 year for us, had a .728 OPS, and is coming off a year in which he barely played. He should be on a major league roster but to look at harold ramirez as "going for it" and giving monte a chance for a month as going back into a rebuild is where we just have a difference of opinions.

Monte was straight up bad at the plate at the big league level last year, no one is doubting that. but it was 47 ab's in a shit show of a season. He has elite skills all over the diamond and if he develops a little more as a hitter he is a legit starter for us. He's got a cannon in RF, not only has elite speed but elite base stealing ability, has ridiculous pure power which is hard to find. He just needs to develop more plate discipline. Im ok with giving him the opportunity to prove he can do that at the big league level and I don't view that as going back into rebuild mode.

                  • i havent been paying close attention this offseason, is there still no clear announcement of an NL DH next year? how is that possible and what is the reason why we don't know one way or another yet? Free agency has been open for 2+ months, how are NL teams supposed to go about building their team?

If we do end up having a DH In the NL, I would give cruz a stupid amount of money on a 1 year deal and slot him in there at DH everyday. that is the type of impact bat we desperately need until hopefully one of the prospects comes up and develops into something good.

                    • Rosario signs in Cleveland for 1 year $8 million.

                      • market seems pretty damn well defined for low OBP big power OF's between Rosario and Joc.

                        • message today from Ng appeared to be using this year to evaluate growth of young guys. And no, that is not mutually exclusive from also trying to compete. Ideally, the young guys thrive and you compete and find out what you have in the future. Worst case is you see that some of these young guys stink and can move on next offseason from a surplus of upper minors close to major league ready talent.

As it stands now, I see us being around .500 again, maybe a slight improvement, given it being a full season. We've helped the bullpen, but nothing has been done for the lineup to push higher than that, IMO.

Nope, there's been no announcement on it. Both sides would rather use it as a bargaining chip for CBA stuff it seems.

Gonna be interested to see if Miami has anything coming in next few days. They made offers to ALL 3 of the guys who just came off the board earlier(Dec) in 2/10-15 range and ALL were looking for longer however signed 1 year deals.

No clue if we pulled offers or they just wanted 1 year deals. Reason we might have pulled them is talk is we are in talks with Pitt on Frazier but so are 2 other teams(Oakland who matches up perfect with Pitt also in)

Lots of chatter than Miami would like versatility like a Adam Frazier or Happ but maybe they focused on a cheaper guy like Santander?
